Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

Totally agree. Con Air is similar. Objectively bad but so fun to watch.

I’m not saying the execution is weak at all, the exact opposite really. That people won’t get the homages is part of the point though, casual viewers would give him credit for work that isn’t original, and its not just camera tricks, its major themes.

I understand what you’re saying, I just don’t find it persuasive.

IFC is running Mommie Dearest on repeat all day on Mother’s Day, pretty decent troll

Watched Fury. 6/10. The first 45 minutes or so are very good, up to the end of the dinner with the German girl scene. They should have put an closing act right after it, but a bow on it and call it a good movie. Instead they tack on another hour and a half.

Well except the open scroll talks about how American tanks are inferior to German tanks and you don’t see another tank until about an hour into it.

Anyways, the score is wierd, big swelling music during small intimate scenes and the ending is bleh.

The evidence for merging this thread with the streaming thread continues.

The ending is so so dumb. Why do they give a shit about their tank? You give them an actual reason for making a last man stand OK, fine. But “this tank is our home”? WTF? It’s a goddamn tank. Just get out of there man. Who gives a shit?

It was so dumb! Throughout the whole movie they’re talking about how the Germans are losing, the war is almost done. They’re killing child soldiers, whole German cities are on fire! So now they have to do a suicidal mission to stop these soldiers in the middle of no where… for reasons? Because he loves his tank? Just join another platoon for Christ’s sake

Saving Private Ryan has the GOAT ending because there’s a reason they have to make a last stand there. There’s cross cutting tension, got to hold the bridge but Ryan can’t die, etc. The last part of it is great!

This one really felt like the writers were like, “well we need a way to wrap this movie up, just throw in a last stand”

It’s disappointing because the acting and certain scenes were great, but they just didn’t stick the landing to bring it all together.

Getting ready to watch “The House At The End Of Time.” Trying not to get overhyped as this was recommended to me by a film aficianado. (This person invited me to see the 1 day showing of "Mandy:)

Only thing I know is its a Venezuelan film and that my friend is dying for someone to watch and discuss.

Watched X Men: Age of Apocalypse

3/10

Not even really worth watching as a hang over movie. No good scenes, everyone’s phoning it in. Only good thing is seeing a mohawk Storm

I just watched Midsommar and Hereditary. Haven’t been able to see too many “scary” movies for a long time because my wife won’t do it. Scary movies have changed! So much wtf.

lol i was about to post about having a blazing saddles watch night. i thought it was hilarious. ending definitely took some risks that didn’t hit 100% but you can’t just blow up the bad guys and have it end that way

Ending is great, it’s so meta and it’s not like anyone cared about the plot anyway. Reminds me of the ending to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Blazing Saddles is in my top 10 comedies of all time, but isn’t even my #1 Mel Brooks movie. That would be Young Frankenstein.

I just listened to a Rewatchables podcast discussing For Love of the Game. I normally love these podcasts, especially for movies that I love, but this was basically an hour+ of Bill Simmons and Mallory Rubin ripping on Kelly Preston. Which makes no sense at all, since both she and this movie are perfect.
