Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

I’ve only watched the trailer, and came away with that exact conclusion

Jojo Rabbit was an absolute delight

Yeah, saw it a few nights ago and I think it was my third favorite film of the year. Taika deserves a lot of credit for it. The kid’s relationship to the two female characters was so well done.

I enjoyed it but I’m not sure that a movie dedicated to humanizing/infantilizing nazis is really what we needed in 2019. Like the things I liked about it had nothing to do with the Nazi setting.

But, it did inspire me to check out the TV adaptation of what we do in the shadows and I’ve been liking it so far.

I don’t know, I thought it was trying to be sympathetic to kids who were brainwashed into terrible thinking. I didn’t think it was humanizing nazis, as much as trying to show how nazi youths could happen, to seemingly good kids.

:100:

I could watch Blood over and over. The first thirty minutes alone.

Punch Drunk Love is one of my faves. Great performances. Adam Sandler maybe being the most honest version of himself. The Healthy Choice scam is so funny. And this scene is GOAT :100:

I WOULD SAY THAT’S THAT

This take is really weird for me, even as someone whose family died in the holocaust. Please infantilize all of the nazis. One of our greatest human victories is Hitler crying when he realized just how much Charlie Chaplin despised and ridiculed him.

26 posts were split to a new topic: The Invisible Man (2020)

Now that a lot of people are bunkered down and watching movies, let me semi-ruin a couple of classics for you:

  1. In The Godfather, Michael’s Sicilian wife Apollonia (Simonetta Stefanelli) was underage when she filmed the nude scene. So you’re watching child pornish material there.

  2. In Raiders of the Lost Ark, there’s a sound error that absolutely cannot be unseen/unheard once you know about it - when Indiana enters Marion’s bar, she’s holding something in each hand against her head, and then throws down whatever she’s holding. The sound effect is one of breaking glass, but she was really holding snow against her head.

Enjoy!

Watched Danger Close off of Amazon Prime. Meh war movie. We Were Solders does it better

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR I knew this was being kicked around but had no idea it was in production. Set for release this September. Gandolfini’s son (also named Gandolfini) is set to play young Tony Soprano

Terminator: Dark Fate manages to be a medium to decent reboot

I enjoyed it.

Agree there. Sad to say though that iteration is likely done. I can’t see another way forward for the franchise except to attempt a true reboot.

There are several good Terminator sequels in the books and comics if you’re jonesing.

I assume that there is no chance this sees a September release with how everything is going. Its the same with video game release schedules. They are all fucked. The next gen systems will not see a holiday release, bank it.

I wonder when they have to start releasing them digitally? I guess as long as the streaming companies are paying them they can keep them in the vault but I imagine media production is pretty JIT and there isn’t a big stockpile of new shows out there. We could have a TV season with no new shows!

Its happened before. Remember the writer’s strike? This will be a bit different cause you can’t film reality TV either, but Im sure someone will come along with shows that can be filmed with social distancing intact, like The Circle or something similar.

May be the tipping point for YouTube type content creators…
