Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

Its an expensive rip off of The King of Comedy.

I strongly disliked it.

Oscar coffee talk in here?

Any dark horse picks?

I thought Joker and Uncut Gems were exceptionally well executed but otherwise empty.

Let’s go Cats, one time.

Parasite should get best picture, but it’s not in English so it will have to settle for demolishing the best foreign film category.

Lighthouse should get best cinematography or whatever that’s called. Whole movie was visually stunning.

I think Cynthia Erivo takes it for Harriet

I sincerely thought this years’ Oscars already happened

At +3000 that would be a hell of a dark horse.

The odds on Parasite have improved to +175…would still be surprised to see it win though

Got link to live odds?

I think BP goes to 1917 or Parasite

Oscars are awful. Fucking Joker is nominated in several categories. Enough said to make it mean nothing in terms of a metric for quality.

is what I was looking at

James Corden and Rebel Wilson are presenting I think that’s the only acknowledgement of Cats we will get tonight

I hope so!!!

Guy who wrote that Vulture article ranked it 50th out of 53 lol

I could easily see it getting shut out, but it feels like they’ve got to give one to Joaquin Phoenix at some point…

I know what you mean. What was the last big awards show that seemed like the Oscars? British Steve Carrel hosted, right? That wasn’t the Oscars???

Phoenix almost certainly wins. But probably it for Joker

That was the Golden Globes. And they usually do a better job of picking good winners.

Seems like Cats just has to win the award for Most Jellicle Film. Although Lighthouse was also extremely jellicle.

I’m fine if Joaquin wins, but I’m a comic book/superhero movie fan and hated Joker. It was as bad as every other empty DC movie. I think the broad script is good, but there is nothing there in the end. 1917 was very mediocre beyond the gimmick, would be glad if it didnt win either.
Once upon a time>parasite>ford v Ferrari personally.
