Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

Do it, you cowards

Agree but is never going to happen.

This. I’d put Lost Highway over MD save for this scene.

I strongly agree with this take but I do not understand it.

Correction, I can’t remember a single song name from Mulholland Drive. Also I saw Lost Highway prob 10+ times, so not really a fair comparison.

They misspelled ā€œRRRā€.

Not sure how; it’s only 3 letters.

I guess this is where I admit I couldn’t finish Lost Highway the first time but have seen Mulholland Drive more times than I can count. It instantly made me think I was a David Lynch fan, when really I just adore that one movie of his.

Honorable mention to Elephant Man and David Lynch Signature Cup Coffee.

For gigantic box office movies everyone saw: I’d maverick a better film than titanic?

I’d probably say yes? Good Will Hunting was the best movie that year, is something that good here?

Absolutely a pretty big fan myself. Twin Peaks (including the amazing follow-up a few years back), blue velvet (with an incredible Dennis Hopper at his best) and Wild at heart with a young Nick cage and Laura Dern are all great in my book.

I take it you finished lost highway eventually? No likey still?

I never finished it… :open_mouth:

I tried more than once. My partner loves it and has suggested we watch it whenever it pops up in the title cards. I guess I should power through and at least open myself to what she’s experiencing and why she loves it.

I wish I liked Lynch. Surrealism is cool. Just not usually into the experience I have when watching his movies.

I think Mulholland Drive is an exception for me less because of Lynch’s approach to storytelling and more because the story of Mulholland Drive resonates with me from my background with fractured identities.

I also can’t get enough of movies that feel impenetrable but are just fair but hard-to-solve puzzles.

This old Dot Net gem is still up: Lynch’s 10 Clues to Unlock the Thriller

I’ve watched Eraserhead loads of times and never tire of it.

Haven’t seen that one either.

Do you also enjoy Tim Burton movies? He’s another one where I enjoyed the hell out of a couple of his movies (Batman, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow), but I don’t like most of anything else he’s done.

This probably sounds odd but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of his films.

I envy you.

Here’s Kevin Smith telling a hilarious anecdote about the time he pissed off Tim Burton.
