Tokyo Story and In The Mood For Love are two movies near the top of that list that are big favorites of mine. I think Tokyo Story is a bit too slow for most people but ITMFL is more modern and stylish and is more palatable to modern tastes (its only 20 years old).
Go watch The Lives of Others please.
Yes. When I finally did see Bound, I was apoplectic.
I like Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool - mostly because theyâre anti-superhero superhero movies. Or Deadpool is. GoG is just cool and fun.
But I want Sci-Fi. I want action. Even horror. So bored with that 30-minute final battle scene vs. the big boss in every superhero movie.
Is it slow and plodding? Is there interiority and pathos?
Came up with some real suggestions.
The Crow (1994)
Special (2006)
Freaks (2018)
Synchronic (2019)
Freaks: Youâre One Of Us (2020)
Do you have any sci-fi suggestions? Preferably with some action and cool plot twists - Philip K Dick-style, and not so much ethereal navel-gazing stuff.
Always. You mean in general beyond niche superhero movies?
Screamers is a solid Philip K Dick movie.
Yes I mean sci-fi.
Thinking brb.
A Scanner Darkly ( cool cast and the way it was made is neat!)
Paycheck
Minority Report
Total Recall (I like both versions)
Havenât seen Paycheck I donât think. I should just bite the bullet and do Scanner Darkly. It just looks weird.
Loved Minority Report and both Total Recalls. Loved the old and new Terminators. Alien is my favorite movie of all time (and criminal itâs not on a top 20 list imo). Love most Tom Cruise sci-fi movies - he seems to get all the good plots.
Edge of Tomorrow
Br2049
Ex Machina
Annihilation
For stuff of the last decade
I should probably watch one of those Alien(s) movies sometime.
Stowaway
Await Further Instructions
Mortal
Vivarium
Whatever Happened To Monday?
Needle in a Timestack
ARQ
Predestination
Time Lapse
Circle (2015)
The Forgotten
The One I Love
The Invisible Man (2020)
Time Crimes
Cube
Source Code
Project Almanac
Parallel
Ultrasound
They Look Like People
Lapsis
Black Bear
Triangle
The Thirteenth Floor
Equilibrium
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things
You should watch exactly two of them. The first is a horror masterpiece. In the second James Cameron basically invented an entire genre that other film and video game makers have been stealing from for decades. Theyâre quite different from each other and seeing one wonât give you much idea of what the other is like.
I assume the two are Alien and Aliens? Does order matter?
