Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

Technically not poker.

What is it :eyes:

Add Mississippi Grind to that list and I agree!

Oof Guy Ritchie. Snatch was amazing, but how do you **** up a live action Aladdin?? He’s just not for me. I’ll check out the scene though and hope the movie is better than I remember (since I don’t remember it at all).

I remember this as boring but it’s on HBO so I’ll refresh my memory…

It’s not the best but for a gambling centric movie I give it 4 bags of @beetlejuice popcorn.

It’s in a boxing ring for metaphorical value I guess

Ashamed to have forgotten that gem!!!

Make it fourth on the list. It’s a Richard Donner classic, and I always love the bit at the end when you find out James Garner (who played the original Maverick) is actually playing the original Maverick and Mel Gibson is his son with the same name.

Like this scene with Maverick explaining the basic strategy of poker should be essential viewing for anyone trying to learn the game.

I can’t imagine liking Snatch and not liking Lock, Stock, or vice versa. Lock, Stock was Ritchie’s first movie (and Jason Statham’s). Snatch was his second and was thematically almost a remake of the first with much of the same cast plus some big stars. Different plot of course, but identically structured and set in the exact same world.

Those are the only two Ritchie movies I’ve ever really liked. Lock, Stock is probably one of my top 3 forever movies.

Owning Mahowny had blackjack rather than poker but it featured a great portrayal of a degen by Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Anything with Alfred Molina is at least decent

I somehow always forget that is Alfred Molina until someone mentions it.

Speaking of the Old West and gambling movies, The Quick and the Dead is 100% a gambling movie, right?
