Not to sound like a CC shill but one other thing that’s refreshing these days is that that the channel doesn’t invite you to rate movies and doesn’t try to give you personalized recommendations.
Wow that’s a great collection
Fall (2022)
A pair of thrill seekers end up trapped at the top of a 2,000 foot tower. This was way better than I was expecting. Not good for people with a fear of heights. The script is surprisingly smart with some ingenious solutions to the problems it introduces.
Grade B+
Fletch remake is exactly what you’d expect. It’s fine. Hamm 5+ years too old at 51. His love interest is 30. Good look.
AFAIK never played the big theme either wtf.
Ah wow, horror movie season starts earlier every year in the McTrollson household and I gotta recommend X, a teen slasher flick that leans hard into all of the genre tropes without becoming a self-aware parody a la A Cabin in the Woods (which was great, don’t get me wrong). Keep your eye on Ti West, I think he’s going to make some amazing trash horror films.
If you’re an absolute nerd like me, you may remember Ti West from the classic indie home invasion thriller You’re Next, which has Barbara Crampton in it, so you know it’s some good shit.
If you want something more highbrow, I want to re-recommend Seconds as one of the most disturbing movies I’ve seen in quite some time. Strong recommend if you like Twilight Zone or Hitchcock.
He also made House of the Devil. X was amazing. The prequel, Pearl is in theaters now and stars Mia Goth from X
This dude filmed an entire B-movie slasher trilogy all at once like he’s Peter Jackson or something. I am 100% on board the Ti West hype train.
I like the shot in the gondola where the de-aging cgi hasn’t been applied to Tom’s face
Barbarian was so good!
I loved the 3 cuts that started each act.
Ya the first one is one of my favourite movie moments in some time.
Took my kids to see Avatar today. Really fun experience. 3D, obviously. Don’t know if it was because it was an imax theater, but the sound was even more impre than the 3D, which was great. Kids were amazed at how good the CGI was considering when it originally came out.
I somehow have never seen Avatar. Guess I should see the rerelease.
Avatar is weird that it 100% has to be seen in theatres and in 3d.
There’s like 17 more Avatar movies coming out, and it kinda seems like nobody cares? Gonna be pretty funny if Cameron spent over a decade and a quadrillion dollars to deliver his first ever box office flop.
What’s weird as heck is that for the past ~five years, Avatar has periodically trended on twitter once every 4 months or so. And it’s all people saying “Hey remember how Avatar sucked?” combined with “Hey why is Avatar trending?”
You should not.
I would not say don’t see Avatar. Avatar is still the most impressive 3D spectacle ever put to the silver screen. The plot is derivative and pretty weak, but that is not why it is worth seeing.
It’s a solid flick, but yeah, definitely need to watch 3D in a theater. I definitely enjoyed it both times I watched and aside for the price (IMAX 3D, family of four), I am happy I saw it again.
Also, if you go see it, there’s a post-credits scene. We had already left, but it came on just soon enough where we could hang out in the exit tunnel and crane our necks. I didn’t really watch, as I had a terrible view, but I think it was a teaser for the next movie.
Fuck me, Saloum is a movie that absolutely fucks. Do not look up anything about it on the internet, just sign up for a free Shudder trial or pay $6 or whatever and watch this movie with your sound system cranked up. Trust me.
