Being able to buy a few rounds for a packed bar would be the prices for when the original came out
But there is one man on Earth who will never bow to you.
Where is this imbecile?
Was watching a YouTube video of the final scene of The Desolation of Smaug earlier because it gave me literal goosebumps it was so awesome when I watched it in the cinema. Then I came across this video where we get to hear how it sounded in different languages.
Persian sounded great, and Turkish sounded fucking hilarious.
I was so disappointed at how Smaug was killed so quickly in the final instalment after that ending.
Benedict Cumberbatch could read the phone book and it would sound epic.
I made it through but was hesitant to ask how this movie managed to get that imdb score. Its popcorn cinema where you better dont think to deep about it. One of the movies where you saw the best scenes in the trailer.
We made it through too and yeah I mean all 3 acts were fine/good which is rare for a movie like this but āthe best sequel everā stuff? I mean Aliens exists, this was no Aliens.
Donāt know how accurate this is but I found it interesting nevertheless

Yep I have read economists making this same case.
watched a couple famous 90s films Iād managed to not see before :
interview with a vampire : borderline unwatchable, ugly mess of a movie. Wasnāt into the 90s long hair, the whole thing felt way too serious and a reminder that Tom Cruise is only good when he doesnāt need to act. There were a couple scenes I liked, like the one where Brad Pitt becomes a cinephile to see daylight again (pairing āsunriseā with ātequila sunriseā is pretty funny), as well as the one death by sunrise / ashes flying in the wind (this has been done several times elsewhere and always makes for great romantic scenes imo).
clueless : perfect movie. I might not have been into it if Iād seen it in my 20s bc itās more nice than edgy, but now I loved every minute of it. Light fun satire, cleverly written, very likable cast. Hard to believe that Alicia Silverstone didnāt become a superstar after that (I might have to watch ābatman&robinā to figure that one out lol). I watched this shortly after seeing the recent Jane Austen āEmmaā adaptation with Anya Taylor Joy, and knowing the general story in advance made it even more fun somehow.
Jane Austenās stuff is some of the most slyly funny satire ever written.
Go read Pride and Prejudice or Northanger Abbey again. Fuckin hilarious.
Iāve actually never read an Austen novel (for a long time Iāve had the probably stupid idea that these were only meant for teenage girls). I hope to fix that in the near future !
2 oldish movies I recently saw for the first time, both because they were Rewatchables podcasts:
Cop Land - I knew this movie existed, but I always considered it to be some dumb movie with fat Rocky Balboa. I enjoyed Tango and Cash when I was a kid, but I had no time for seeing him do that again, just 10 years older and 50 pounds heavier. Spoiler: Iām a moron. This movie was pretty great. I mean, just looking at the cast is insane:
Itās not Goodfellas level, but itās certainly worth watching and I regret I waited so long to see it.
The Untouchables - Another great cast - Costner, Conner, De Niro, Andy Garcia. And itās written by David Mamet. So I knew going in this was likely to be great. Again, Iām a moron. This was a huge miss for me. The physical stuff (costumes, locations) was great, but I thought this was incredibly dull. I canāt believe that Connery won an Oscar for this, and De Niro was aggressively terrible as Al Capone. I should have just watched Heist again.
The Untouchables was one I liked a lot as a kid but I havenāt watched it in a long time
Wasnāt there someone here who hate watched all the Netflix live action anime adaptations? New FMA movie on there to get through.
Day Shift
3/10
Netflix movie staring Jamie Fox and Dave Franco in a John Wick meets vampires movie. I thought with that combination at least itād be interesting. Itās not. The humor is meh, the plot meh, just not really worth watching. The kind of annoying thing is the attempted cool fighting they do in this is that semi acrobatic mma stuff, but like for absolutely any kind of fights until you just feel sorry for the stunt people who had to twirl and spin into an arm bar for hours for when the script would have called for a simple punch.
Miami Vice
6/10
Michael Mann adapts Miami Vice. After the first couple of scenes I was like āis he trying to film this like an 80ās TV show, or is he just bad?ā. Heās of course mimicking the TV show, but, in my mind, he doesnāt quite pull it off. The digital camera just donāt capture the feel of a TV show and for an odd reason Mann decided the best time of day in Miami is nighttime and the best locations are industrial zones so a good solid half of this movie is filmed at night in various industrial locations. Come on, I want sun drenched beaches, bikinis, and shoot outs in the sun. Oh well
Michael Mann loves the night
Synchronicity: this trivia item connects Miami Vice with The Untouchables.
Don Johnson was ready to leave the show at the end of its second season, and the studio lined up Mark Harmon to take over the role of Sonny Crockett. The only one not happy with this solution was executive producer Michael Mann, who convinced Johnson to stay on. As a result, Johnson became the best paid actor in the history of television series. Johnson subsequently had to turn down roles in quite a few movies, such as the leads in both āThe Untouchables (1987)ā and āDie Hard (1988).ā
