Uncut Gems
Weāve all seen Adam Sandler pretend to be an asshole by now, so itās only fitting that his latest movie begins with a camera going up his actual asshole.
The trailers arenāt doing a good job of selling this movie. The story is a compelling series of escalations by a gambling addict. Kevin Garnett (KG) is excellent playing (what I assume is) a dark version of himself.
For me, the filmās greatest accomplishment was the climax. The movie up till then made me suddenly care about sports. Iāve never really paid attention to who is who. If you score, you score, and Iām probably rooting for whoever you hate just to make it fun. I donāt really care.
But I was following KG, I was paying attention to everyone around him on the court, I understood his motivation and what was at stake for the game, I switched back to Adam Sandler and knew the thrill, the rush, the euphoria that comes waiting to see if you make a huge score or lose the whole fuckinā farm on one single sports bet.
I will probably not watch this ever again. Itās not that kind of movie.

I canāt wait. This is more exciting than Tarantino directing a Trek because Hawley could easily establish an expanded universe to reinvigorate the franchise, whereas Iād expect Tarantino would have made an interesting one-off no one could continue

Agree! Also, I donāt know the right way to explain this, but the way Hawley uses imagery in Legion translates super well to a Star Trek setting imo. So much to play with there.

I really enjoyed the first season of Legion. I forget if it was the second or third season that brought in the '70s British TV sci-fi women with moustaches in jumpsuits stuff, but I tuned out at that season. Will look forward to this, though part of me still wants Tarantrek.

Iād love to see Tarantrek but I have a feeling itād have like 10 minutes worth of Andorian foot porn. And before you say thatās hawt, like really, what if they all have crusty ass nasty blue feet with gnarled toenails, I donāt want to take that chance.

Also tapped out halfway through the 2nd season on Legion. But S2 of Fargo is imo the single best season of any television show ever.

The Oscars hardly ever nominates comedies.
Itās been a knock on the Oscars for many years that it ignores comedies in its BP noms. The Globes do it the right way. The people who run the Academy refuse to change because they donāt want to be like the Globes rolleyes
