Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

I still feel really terrible about my part in making a friend see Batman and Robin twice at the cinema. He’d already seen it and was trying to tell us it was terrible, but he was also the only one with a car and, “how bad can it be?” seemed pretty persuasive to us all.

We’re not really in touch now, but I hope he’s forgiven us.

sry but for some reason I rewatched both winter soldier and civil war in the past like 4 days and neither are “good”. Do they set up what they’re supposed to i.e. ultron and infinity war? Yeah sure. But they’re all over the place, has a bunch of disjointed overly long action scenes, and both seems like they’re like 1/2 hour too long. Big pass.

Finally got around to seeing Moonlight. It was good. Not much to say about it that hasn’t already been said.

Ok, this looks incredible.

Nic Cage playing a silent protagonist is an interesting choice to say the least

FNAF knockoff?

Yeah, they rushed it out as soon as they heard a FNAF movie was in the works. Banana Splits got the first one out but it was pretty bad.

This one looks like it will have a terrible story, but Cage gets major ++++ points.

Thoroughbreds

A teen girl and her emotionless friend plot to kill her step dad.

I’ve been wanting to watch this movie forever and finally it’s on FXNow which is a thing apparently.

The movie was pretty good 7/10. Almost purely dialogue between the two main characters who give great performances. One is Anya Taylor-Joy because she’s in everything. It’s bit of a dark comedy with more dark than comedy imo.

Yea I think Civil War is one of the worst Marvel movies. I didn’t remember it as bad but when I tried to re-watch it recently I couldn’t finish it. Everything about it just seemed frustratingly dumb.

This makes me think of a movie I saw not too long ago, but I cannot think of the title and my google fu is failing me.

A man and teenage girl become vigilantes after (possibly) some kind of bad day? Then they kind of rampage against society in general, right wing society more specifically?

Fuck… of anybody knows please help. It probably came out between 2016 and 2018

Oh shit I found it. Older than I thought. 2011’s God Bless America

Lol that’s a Bobcat classic.

What? What’s the point? Face Off was a fun, entertaining flick. There’s nothing about it that would merit a remake.

Agreed. It still holds up as entertaining schlock. There is no reason to remake this

They keep trying to remake movies that are really hard to capture the magic of the original. Off the top of my head the only one that worked out was the Jumanji remake.

Not that Face-off was that good or had a great premise to begin with.

re: Face Off remake. What pair of actors would be best to play the leading men?

Actors willing to make schlock for a paycheck: Shia Lebouf & McCauley Culkin

Or an inter-racial twist: O’Shea Jackson(AKA Ice Cube Jr) & Jonah Hill

Or female leads but make the comedy intentional: Kristen Wiig & Melissa McCarthy

Face/Off
The Rock
Con Air

That’s the holy trinity of Cage.

Except I can name three actual good movies he was in so we kind of have a problem here don’t we?

I’ll give you those three and I will take

Moonstruck
Adaptation
Leaving Las Vegas

And moonwalk out with all the awardz. Prolly box office too.

Not inflation adjusted, but any one of the Risky trinity made more at the box office than your three picks combined.

Face/Off is lowest w/ 'bout 224 million.

Moonstruck ~80
Leaving Las Vegas ~ 50
Adaptation ~ 32

Moonstruck and Leaving Las Vegas aren’t that good. There I said it.

Adaptation GOAT but it is hella niche.

I see what you’re going for, but the Trinity reigns supreme.
