I like it because of the storytelling, the twists. It’s not that I don’t like it exactly. I think it’s that Korean cinema is so effective at visceral violence that it’s very quickly enough or too much for me.
The nihilism and depression of von Trier is off-putting to me, I mean I battle that shit in my daily life but it’s not something I wan’t or need for my recreation, different strokes.
Are you sure you weren’t just walking in in reverse?
I watch Twin Peaks for that shit.
Peak Lynch+Nolan inversion.
Speaking of artistic movies with strong character development and plot, Wonder Woman 1984 is going to be HBO Max’s first 4K movie.
My only 4K-capable streaming device is the built-in Roku on my new TV, so hopefully the 4K version of the movie will be available through that. If not, regular HD will do just fine for a fun movie night with the family.
6pm EST watch party tomorrow if y’all have occasion to watch at the same time
Dogville is the only one I’ve seen and it’s a top 5 film of all time for me
Not watching Antichrist.
Breaking The Waves,Dancer In The Dark, and Meloncholia are all on the watch list.
WW85 was actually… pretty good. And I don’t usually like these.
Now that I’m finally done yeah its 1/2 hour too long but I was fairly entertained until act 3 and yeah good movie to play on your phone with it in the background.
Bold move to put out the sequel to WW84 that fast, but when we’re all a captive audience
I’m pretty pumped for Odenkirk John Wick
I’m waiting for the prequel where she helps soldiers with the Spanish Flu: WW17
This is the weirdest thing to me.
That said I am also strangely pumped
Christopher Nolan is desperate to turn Tom Hardy into this generation’s Gary Oldman, but I’ve never felt persuaded by this guy for a second. It’s not that I don’t agree with what he’s attempting. Don’t accuse me of not liking the kind of characters he plays. In fact it’s among my favorites anyway.
It’s that swing hard or light, straight over the plate or close your eyes and pray, the guy is SO BAD at it that I just cannot. Is there a worse champion for these roles? Can we just give them to Nic Cage for pennies on the dollar? He’s always up for some “hey wasn’t that bridge designed by Stan Lee himself” sort of scam.
Wait did you just say you don’t like Tom Hardy???That is a bannable offense
I love the man, but a challenge to all comers to present evidence of a single second of persuasive performance from him. It’s a great act, but he has never fooled me for a moment. I sit here wondering if he’s doing it for free, because we are getting the bad end if he’s getting a check.
Wat
Let’s see your examples.
I want to be persuaded
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, but that’s about it, tbh. Every other movie he’s just playing Tom Hardy.
