Movies (and occasionally face slaps) (Part 1)

How many people knew what Janet Reno said? And how many people remembered his weeks-long depiction in the media as a freak and very weird dude? How much time did the media spend defaming Jewell, and how much time did they spend making it clear that he was innocent — indeed, a hero? We all know the answer to that. What the media did was very irresponsible and surely permanently changed his life. And the Journal constitution was ground zero for that.

Maybe for his next flick, Clint can make a movie about the right-wing Christian evangelical anti-gay anti-government anti-socialist piece of shit who actually did the bombing? I might even go see it.

And who they have playing Norm.

And did the media destroy Richard Jewell? Opinions apparently differ, but this seems relevant:

I didn’t say “sorry” when I saw Jewell that April day. We simply exchanged greetings. I saw him again a year later, at a training exercise for local law officers. He was back on the job as a sheriff’s deputy and friendly, although he went cold when he saw an FBI agent in attendance. A couple of days later, I sat at the computer and started my letter of apology, got frustrated and hit save. A year after that, Jewell died at 44, after months of failing health; my letter remained unfinished and unsent.

I mean yeah he got fucked and deserved an apology. That’s a far cry from life rooned. Compared to many others he came out of his ordeal fairly well. But that’s not the narrative this film is selling.

Kind of eerie that he and that reporter both died in their 40s

Epstein didn’t kill himself.

lol this movie is like GamerGate for Boomers.

None of you have seen the movie! How do you know what it’s like?

Also, watch Unforgiven or tGtBatU and tell me more about Eastwood’s bad acting.

Clint is a movie star and not really a good actor. He’s very good at one character with a couple minor variations. He’s kind of laughably bad when he tries to do something else. Some great movies though and he’s a very good director. He has a fair number of movies though that I have absolutely no interest in having nothing to do with politics and this is one of them. I don’t generally like biopics or dramatizations either and wasn’t interested in Sully, American Sniper, Jersey Boys, or J. Edgar.

I don’t think the quality of his acting/directing is the issue here.

Here’s two things I bet nobody ever thought they’d hear in the same sentence: “Adam Sandler” and “Oscar Buzz”

I think that’s the 6th of 7 signs

Punch drunk love though.

The cinematography in PDL was absolutely amazing. And yeah, Sandler was pretty great in it too.

When I see a Cats trailer I finally viscerally understand Lovecraftian horror. I don’t think there’s ever been a trailer that’s made me not want to know more about in intellectual property in any medium.

Magnifique

What’s a good movie on Prime? I’m about to watch 12 Monkeys unless there’s something better.

dunno what you’re into, but if you have the time and haven’t seen it, The Martian is pretty good. Also, The Big Sick is great.
