What do you think of the upcoming remake/revival/sort-of sequel series?
The last iteration was so damn good. That deserves a rewatch thread.

I donât know anything about the upcoming project. If Ronald D. Moore is involved, I have full confidence.
I actually just put on the miniseries tonight. Been meaning to do a full rewatch. Petered out in S4 before the Pandemic.
Just turned interstellar back on and just watched the black hole scene, pretty amazing shot
I think the time relativity and gravity stuff is what makes me like it so much, it really blows my mind, itâs hard to comprehend
I just look forward to the day the human race eats nothing but corn and corn-derived products
Ever since I was a kid I was a huge fan of the speculative âwhat ifâ style of science fiction that was going down in the 50âs-60âs. Like your Isaac Asimovs and Rod Serlings and Gene Roddenberrys and Ray Bradburys and so on.
I was a young child when Star Wars and Alien and Terminator were blowing up, and as much as I will always love those movies, they really turned sci-fi into a shooty action-adventure sort of thing. The Matrix was a movie that bridged the two worlds: it had interesting ideas about technology and what the future might be like, but also it had kung fu and guns and so forth.
2000-2010 felt like a real dry spell for sci-fi movies/shows. idk, was there any good sci-fi that came from that decade?
2010-2020 feel like a kind of Renaissance of interesting science fiction. Movies like The Arrival and Ex Machina feel like real old-school sci-fi films that ask interesting questions and donât rely on action sequences. My man Rod Serling is making a massive comeback, too. Shows like Black Mirror or the Twilight Zone reboot or movies like Get Out, that classic style of sci-fi storytelling is as big now as itâs ever been. Right now is a good time to be a fan of old-school science fiction.
The native people of Ohio gave that a try. Turns out that pellagria is a bitch, you need more than just corn.
Think the 2000s just suffered from a lack of good directors. A lot of those new 2010-now movies are newer directors, and idk, I guess Ridley Scott canât do an amazing scifi movie every decade?
Gondryâs Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind was excellent and itâs a real shame he seems to have only been interested in making comedies and super hero films since.
Children of Men
Amazing film but sort of sci-fi tangential, no?
Yes, but Iâd say no more so than a lot of Black Mirror episodes.
Finally finished interstellar, confirmed GOAT.
About to try this sunshine movie I guess
Also Iâve never seen close encounters of the third kind, has that Aged well?
Youâre at the right age that itâs hard to say.
I think most Spielberg is effective but very obviously dated.
Aged very badly unless youâre a kid. I watched it last year - itâs one of Speilbergâs cloyingly sentimental films and barely sci-fi.
Trolly, you have renewed my love for sci-fi. Going to check out a few lesser-seen releases and hopefully have some recs to share.
What you get at is what I love about good sci-fi, too, and what can be fun but isnât nearly as compelling for me.
I like how the Zardoz poster fires shots at two of the most iconic sci-fi properties out there. Thatâs a lot of chutzpah.
Make sure you watch âMoonâ if you havenât already.
