A surprisingly succinct yet sufficient answer
You have to admit her breasts are spectacular too!
It also had a crap load of future stars, such as Jennifer Jason Leigh, Forrest Whitaker, Sean Penn, Nick Cage, Eric Stoltz, Anthony Edwards.
And who doesnât love the crabby Ray Walston?
Superb use of music in that film as well, I believe Cameron Crowe was involved in it somehow.
I would suggest rewatching if you didnât like it because yeah itâs dated but it may be the perfect coming-of-age film.
Be careful with assumptions. ATIL this week is that, apparently, there are humans (supposedly) who think âGooniesâ is complete shit.
He wrote it.
IIRC, he went undercover in a west coast high school for inspiration.
Also gotta say its really hard to overstate how awesome Galaxy Quest is. Iâd say its a perfect film. Fricking love Richtman in this.
Just realized this week that Rainn Wilson makes a brief appearance in the beginning.
Okay yeah I guess he was involved heh
Now that you say it I remember him talking about it on Alec Baldwinâs podcast durr. And he in person talked Plant and Page into letting them use Kashmir in the movie after they initially refused.
Crowe is a pretty interesting guy. Apparently a lot of the stuff in Almost Famous also really happened irl. Not all of it of course, but according to him, he really did go on the road as a 16-year-old for Rolling Stone. The scene where the kid loses his virginity to the groupies was a retelling of him losing his own virginity. And Billy Crudupâs scene jumping off the house into the pool happened too, except it was Duane Allman, and it happened at a motel (a Travelodge iirc and they all got kicked out as a result).
Finally got a chance to watch âAnnihilationâ this week. Overall a very solid effort and an excellent philosophic meandering.
SPOILERS
I think my enjoyment was limited by my lack of physics and biology knowledge even though I understood the general ideas of refraction and imitation.
Portman is my absolute #2 favorite actress behind Meryl.
The OST. Man, Id say its definitely above average but there a couple of just amazing moments. âHelplessly Hopingâ by Crosby,Stills, and Nash just fucking explodes off the screen in âThe Lighthouse.â Iâve always liked this song but its taken a whole new meaning in my brain. Sensory overload all week every time I play it relentlessly.
Also the scene where her doppelganger forms. Discrete and proper use of a brooding, menacing synth.
Just watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Excellent performances by Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, and Woody Harrelson.
Woodâs performance and story really knock it out of the park and outshine everyone else in the movie imo.
I wouldâve liked this film a lot less without the redemptive ending.
There was one political statement that, unless I misread it, was pretty ballsy.
I thought the ending was vague enough for the possibility of some kind of mischief.
FWIW, I didnât even realize that was Sam Rockwell until I just checked the cast list before posting.
Rockwell and McDormands oscars were well deserved
Man I gotta watch it again. The forgiveness and redemption were pretty key for me.
Has Rockwell done any bad films? The Way Way Back has to be my favorite Rockwell sleeper and also a top performance by Carell.
OTTOMH Id say The Green Mile is my least favorite.
This was pretty great. Excellent acting from the entire cast.
I watched it last night for the first time and I disagree that itâs a âperfect coming of ageâ movie. Like itâs just about some horny kids and some dumb shit that happens to them but thereâs no real conflict or resolution or overarching point. Agree the music is great and itâs cool to see the young stars that came out of it. It wasnât bad or unenjoyable per se, I just donât think it worked that well as a movie. I think stories like that work better as books because itâs more about the individual characters, so you can examine them more deeply. Does that make sense? Iâm reading a popular novel right now and it feels exactly the opposite, like itâs practically begging to be made into a movie.
the studio and producers are trying to get Christian Bale, Val Kilmer, and George Clooney to play their versions of Batman as well.
Apparently, Chris OâDonnell from Batman and Robin and Batman Forever is also being approached to reprise his role as Robin. Then they say The Flash TV show star Grant Gustin is also expected to appear as his version of Barry Allen.
The biggest and most exciting claim they make, though, is that Nicolas Cage might be being lined up to play the version of Superman that director Tim Burton was planning for him in the unmade movie Superman Lives
This movie is a bit of a hinge in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that weâve seen before are valid. Itâs inclusive in the sense that it is saying all that youâve seen exists, and everything that you will see exists, in the same unified multiverse
