Massive explosion in Beirut

That seems fair.

I would honestly find it pretty crushing if someone said that nobody here likes me (so if thatā€™s the case just everyone keep quiet about it).

Obviously I donā€™t agree with Clovis about much, including his attempted dunking about giving people free food even if inflation is bad.

The free food part is fine. Of course thatā€™s exactly what they should do but as you know itā€™s not really free. They have to pay and import it.

My laugh came from simultaneous dunking on capitalism then saying they should pay the available price.

Clovis is welcome to a dram from me when he visits Scotland, as thereā€™s plenty to like and respect about him.

Alough he may not even tell me heā€™s been over, Oh well. :man_shrugging:

He clearly stated ā€œaccessableā€ not ā€œavailableā€. FFS, you even quoted him, and then flip it to something else a few posts later. If I was being uncharitable Iā€™d say you were intentionally changing his wording so that you could feel like you are blocking a dunk attempt while wearing your capitalism is awesome cape.

Instead, I will be charitable and say perhaps you are misunderstanding his point.

When he said ā€œaccessible priceā€ he meant a price the people could afford, not the price thatā€™s accessible on the market.

I like and respect all three of you, but Iā€™m easy.

Oh, Clovis is misquoting and lying to make his point? Must be a day that ends in Y

Lebanon might have a more thriving economy if they didnā€™t prohibit 20% of their population from working. Hot take?

If so my bad and apologies. I misunderstood him. I took it as accessible on the market. That definition of accessible seems weird after saying it should be free (which it should).

Apparently I misunderstood your point. My apologies.

Vict0ar, your mission, should you choose to accept it is: provide a detailed and comprehensive solution to the problems that ail the people living in Lebanon. Your solution must not stop the flow of profits to the owners of the world. Also, criticism of the USA, capitalism, and neo-liberal policies can not be included in your answer.

Just because the richest and most powerful capitalist country in the world routinely spends more money on military aid to Israel than it would cost to feed the refugees in Lebanon, and just because that military aid directly leads to obscene profits for the capitalist owned US defense contractors, and just because Israel has taken that military aid and used it to attack Lebanon for decades, and just because those refugees exist in part because of foreign policy decisions made by the capitalist controlled US government, and just because the US and capitalist dominated international banking system sucks resources out of countries around the world including Lebanon leaving them underfunded to handle crisis, does not mean you can connect any of those dots.

If you do not provide an answer within 10 minutes, the entire world will become Venezuela. But youā€™d probably like that anyway you filthy commie basterd

Sounds like a mission only Jared Kushner could solve.

I hate America as much as the next guy but this seems like an odd one to assign primary responsibility to the US.

Thatā€™s probably why I am not assigning primary responsibility to the US.

Oh Christ if that is the deciding factor on me getting respect I am sooooooo screwed!

Can you explain to us how things are provided for free when the currency is collapsing?

You confiscate the farms I am assuming.

Or are you proposing price controls ala Maduro.

Maybe both! How come nobody ever thought of that before?

Whenever another countryā€™s economy collapses regardless of America or Capitalismā€™s roll, just blame America or Capitalism.

Per wikipedia, ā€œLebanonā€™s constitution states that ā€˜the economic system is free and ensures private initiative and the right to private propertyā€™. Lebanonā€™s economy follows a laissez-faire model. Most of the economy is dollarized.ā€

Lebanon is a nation state that operates within a global system of US, and hence capitalist, hegemony. It would be damn near impossible to have a real conversation about Lebanonā€™s economy without touching on America or capitalism.
