Major League Baseball (Part 2)

yeah topps used bob for awhile, his earliest cards are roberto though (as are his latest)

you’ll be shocked to learn he insisted on roberto but got ignored

that was a thing back then, everyone with that sort of name got called bob like they would here with rob or bob for a robert or something like that.

muncy only out six weeks

good news, happens with those sometimes it’s just a six week or so injury rather than a well shit one

Glad to hear he isnt too badly hurt, that could have been a lot worse

So to replace him on my fantasy team, do I just go and pick up Max Muncy?

Welp, I jinxed Robbie Ray. Perfect through 4, I say “oh man, I should turn the game on”

Immediate homer

I thought this was interesting, from Joe Posnanski:

Clayton Kershaw was the 20th pitcher to reach 3,000 strikeouts. When you look at the 3,000th strikeout for those 20 pitchers:

  • One person was the 3,000th strikeout victim of two different pitchers. (Cesar Geronimo was Nolan Ryan’s and Bob Gibson’s 3,000 K)
  • Phil Niekro’s 3,000th strikeout didn’t record an out. Larry Parrish swung through a wild pitch and reached first base safely.
  • Justin Verlander’s 3,000th strikeout also didn’t record an out. Kole Calhoun reached first safely, then ended up scoring.
  • 2 pitchers (Verlander and Randy Johnson) struck out the 3,000th batter of their career and the 300th batter of the season in the same game.
  • Max Scherzer got his 3,000th strikeout and got an immaculate inning (3 strikeouts, 9 pitches) in the same game.

If you like a comeback story, 36 year old Drew Pomeranz is technically starting tomorrow for the Cubs (he’ll just pitch one inning). Before this year he was last seen in the majors in 2021.

This year, 23.1 IP 1 unearned run given up all year so far.

Wanted something to watch during the afternoon lull today. Went to turn on the Cubs game and it wasn’t on the local network. Turns out it was the Apple TV game.

What’s the over/under on people nationwide that have signed up for Apple TV to watch regular season baseball? I legit think it might be like 200.

Holy shit, no room to talk as the Giants are getti g taken to the shed against the As, but Houston hung a ten spot on the Dodgers in thr 6th

it’s always good for ohtani to reminisce about his angels past

rare they let a reliever give up 10 runs but the dodgers did

Exciting weekend for White Sox fans

so this dude just picks the grounder up to avoid the double play

which happened

except the umps and everyone else who’s supposed to know the rules all screwed this up too, him picking up the ball is a double play, hitter is supposed to be out too.

I’m sure in 1800 whatever someone did this and then they go oh that’s bullcrap we’re making that a double play anyway

avoid double plays with this one neat trick!

Like, why not just “inadvertently” kick it?

If a batted ball hits the runner they’re out.
