Major League Baseball (Part 1)

The Hall of Fame is a fucking joke. They claim character is part of the prerequisites needed to be inducted and then let Ty Cobb in.

When he was let in, the racism was a feature, not a bug.

He got shot, so he can stay.

In the first HOF class, and with the highest percent of votes (yup, more than Babe Ruth).

Steroids or no, Bonds was the greatest hitter of all time. Still absolutely thrilled that I got to see so much of it.

Brisbee pretty much has my argument covered. (paywall)

But regardless how you feel, this blast from the past cracked me up. Presented as Brisbee does:

Bonds had 18 intentional walks before the end of April in 2004.

Yeah, Judge is having a phenomenal season especially compared to the rest of the league but Bonds had 4 straight seasons with an OBP above .500 with one of those over .600.

Highest OBP this year is Judge with .422

I could see if he was a really fast baserunner that got a ton of base hits and scrappy kind of RBI’s that this could be the case. But his thing was home runs. A home run can easily turn into a routine fly ball without the little extra juice.

ftr i think PED’s should just be allowed since they probably never will be stopped. I just hate how it incentivizes kids to use stuff that can really destroy their bodies.

even in my shitty little highschool team half the guys were using something or another, I remember it vividly, plus the coaches kind of pressuring you to “bulk up” and shit, it’s really easy to just start using it especially when there’s zero testing, at least when I played.

FWIW I also agree people mainly go after bonds because of the color of his skin

Wait what? lol

Owning a pajama boy who uses feminine pronouns by voting for the biggest racist.

Except he was a fast baserunner and got a ton of base hits. He’s 34th all-time in stolen bases and is tied for the lead with 5 career 30-30 seasons (bonus points if you can guess who he’s tied with: it’s his dad, Bobby). His style obviously changed later in his career, presumably due to steroid use providing some extra pop, but people forget how good he was pre-roids.

And conversations like these tend to assume that Bonds (or whoever the topic of discussion happens to be) is the only one using steroids, when obviously in this era he wasn’t. It’s all in the game, and he did it better than anyone. He should have been a slam dunk hall of famer; that he isn’t in the hall just shows what a joke the HOF process is.

I’m not questioning he was good, I agree with what you posted and I definitely was focusing on his later seasons.

Making the case for GOAT by specifically citing stats from the PED years is non-sensical.

I don’t give a shit what his OBP was on the juice. He was in his late thirties and not just blew away his already great career averages at an age that should be a decline.

2000s BB is a complete fraud and deserves every shitty thing that happens to him.

Might as well give them 700 too, being on the big stage and all. Almost all of these HRs late in the season for Pujols have been meaningful too, tie games, take the lead, etc.

Haha they gave him the Cal Ripken final All-Star game fastball.

(Not mad, though, Pujols deserves it).

Bonds is one of (3, 4?) people in the 40-40 club. He was exceptionally fast for a good part of his career
