Another manager loss in my opinion. He has no feel for situational baseball and the players that can’t be played in those situations. I suspect you’re somewhat sympathetic to this given his old man always makes the short lists of worst managers of all time.

From the dugout, Bell saw Ashcraft “overtrying.” Ashcraft said that Bell told him, “You know what you can do. You know how good you are. Be that guy.’”

After that mound visit, Ashcraft allowed a single, walked a batter with the bases loaded and then surrendered a grand slam to Brewers right fielder Blake Perkins, who didn’t have a career home run before Saturday.

Giving up the 9th earned run on the grand slam wasn’t enough because he came back in the 4th to surrender a 10th run via home run. I’m not exactly sure what’s going on with Ashcraft but it was clear right away that he didn’t have it. I suspect he’s ether tipping or injured, although I saw a compelling argument that his repertoire is the problem (he’s a two-pitch pitcher who can’t threaten the inner third of the plate against righties and is getting slaughtered by them).

2023 8

  • Game #8, tomorrow 6:40 pm: Mariners @ Padres (1-2 in SDDC).

The Royals have clinched the SDDC (as the schedule now stands). Sabo’s Padres organization were eliminated in game #7, when the Lake Elsinore Storm lost 6-8 to the 66ers… in another game marred by those stupid-ass Manfred Men the last two innings.

Unbiased takes on rangers this year?

Not a great start from Manoah. Jays gotta send him down or something.

Is he tipping pitches or something? Weird for someone to get hit so hard when they previously had success. Unless he’s got some injury and his velocity and movement are down.

His velocity is down and his pitches have less vertical movement and more horizontal movement. His pitches are clearly not the same as they were before. Looks like he’s throwing less 4 seamers than he used to as well. Obviously I have no idea what the cause of this is but it will be interesting to see what the Jays do to fix him because he used to be good but now he’s broken.

A year ago, Manoah’s slider generated a -18 run value, per Baseball Savant, making it the 18th-best pitch in baseball. This year, that same slider is at +11 run value, the second-worst pitch in MLB (only Kyle Muller’s four-seamer is worse)

He’s not even replacement level though. He’s brutal.
