Listening to the Bruneig podcast and there is no welfare benefit so simple that Democrats cannot fuck it up beyond all comprehension. The Democratic plan for paid family leave was a government administered program but now is basically Obamacare but for family leave. The idea is you can buy family paid leave insurance from your employer who is buying it from an insurance company. If you company doesn’t offer paid family leave you can buy it from your state and if your state doesn’t offer it then you can buy it from the federal government after proving that your employer and state don’t offer it

The Cubans and other Latin Americans that I encounter in south Florida that identify as Republican are pretty crappy. They are like caricatures of the US right wing, spewing generic Republican rhetoric from the past 30 years. Stupid chest-thumping worship of the military and police. Many appear to really buy into the bootstraps/American dream narrative that we have broadcast for as long as I’ve been alive, and many appear to be very misogynistic. They definitely do not respond well to the left’s approach of prioritizing racial/sexual rights rhetoric and loudly calling out racism and cultural appropriation, etc.
