I mean, you can’t write “Swalwell is a woman abuser” stories without some hard evidence, and when that evidence needs to be stories from victims and they don’t want to go public, he’s a bit stuck.

I tend to blame the people who gave him endorsements and worked on his campaign etc, because you can just not do those things without potentially needing to defend your position in court.

Adam Schiff for one

That’s fine, but post hoc football spiking should probably be less flamboyant

But if he reported it, he would have lost all that inside access where they totally tell him and leak to him real true for real things and not whatever would result in whatever headline they wanted to see or test

And article on the behind the scenes work that went on that lead to Stalwell’s fall

QUICK.

Still, the rumors circulated enough that power brokers were compelled to bring them up to Swalwell directly. In endorsement interviews and over meals, he was asked if there was anything to the chatter, anything in his past that could damage not only him, but his supporters. Swalwell insisted there was not. He told people he was one of Trump’s favorite targets; surely, if there were any skeletons in his closet, the president’s MAGA legion would have found them.

“I asked Eric a lot of questions, and people that were close to him questions: Is there anything? You don’t have to tell me what,” said Ian Calderon, a former state lawmaker who ended his own campaign for governor in March and endorsed Swalwell. “I told him, ‘There are no secrets in politics, and if there is something, it will come out.’ He was indignant and adamant.”

Democrats should “credit” and embrace once-staunch Republican supporters of President Donald Trump who have now grown more critical of him.

I wonder why ‘credit’ is in quotes and ‘embrace’ isn’t.

Maybe she actually used the word “credit” but didn’t actually say “embrace”? Don’t really feel like hunting her exact words down.

That is correct. She said credit, but the writer and headline writer thought embrace was better because they think it makes Omar look bad.

“Embrace” is also shorter than “put our arms around”, which she actually did say.

She didn’t say “put our arms around Greene”.

I think Mediaite is a generally left-leaning site (within the American context) that sees “embrace” as a positive rather than negative term in this story.

We got him!
