My 20 yo son is a huge Bernie fan and so am I. Small sample size, but a decent human is a decent human and trying to shit on him over this is pretty fucked imo.
Iām sorry I hurt your feelings with facts, but Bernie built a strategy around turning out low-propensity and young votersā¦and the young voters did not show up to vote. Itās just the facts.
So was it that ZM is a better candidate than Bernie, the times we live in, a different way of campaigning, different tactics on the ground, or a combination of all those things? Which had more influence? WHY was he able to actually convince these usual non-voters (especially in a LOCAL election) to actually get to the polls?
Be offended all you want, Iām trying to figure out why ZM was successful in this endeavor and Bernie was not.

I am a realist. I want proof of things. If a young leftist won in 2020 I would have been happy because it means that the progressive wing finally put their money where their mouth is and delivered a win.
ZM did and I think itās incredible that someone finally managed to do what Bernie had been trying and failing to do since 2016. I want more young people voting! I want to know how he did it! I want more candidates to campaign that way!

ZM got results and Iām glad he won. Iām glad Bernieās dream was realized in him, at least in terms of his campaign strategy. Bernie himself couldnāt do it but ZM did and now itās time to learn and carry it forward.

Yeah, this is cope. Mamdani is a disaster for the party. Running well in a Dem primary in NYC proved ~nothing about his broader electability. Far more likely than activating the long-fantasized youth swell of voters is that having a socialist who wants to nationalize grocery stores (!) with such a high profile will just damage the partyās national brand in less deep-blue areas and make it even more impossible to contest the Senate.
