Why does anyone sign up for any forum the first time? They don’t know anyone.

People are drawn to a topic or post and then lurk or join.

Suggested tagline - “The only way is UP”

You can use that for free.

It must be the politics - if you’re only into food, music, sport or STONKS you’ll already be on other forums.

The problem for UP is that political junkies are also probably established as regs on other forums, and kids getting into politics for the first time might not want to post with a bunch of (mainly) middle aged guys.

I think there’s good discussions about politics, covid, television, NFTs (is that the spelling?), Walrus, personal finance, and music in general. You’re hurting my feelings, oreo.

Bunch of pretty smart people talking about different interesting stuff and some assholes for flavor.

Not sure why people who post here all time don’t understand why people would post here.

The level of information, discourse and analysis here is very high compared to the internet in general. That is true for politics, arts and several other topics.

Our problem isn’t the level of posting. It’s that we are a tiny little startup trying to compete with the mega guys like Reddit etc. It’s the same issue faced by all start ups.

We could discuss poker advice on here, just a thought.

Those are the same reasons someone interested in learning more about progressive politics would sign up here no?

No money. Everyone’s solid. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Cactus Did you every post on 2p2? If not, how did you find this site and why did you stick around?

Well yeah, now you’re talking.

We could even lure chez over with the promise of his own sub-forum where nothing is off limits and get Tooth, Juan, wil, bundy and all here. That’ll boost traffic

I think part of the issue is we don’t have a brand. We should lean into our progressive focus. Make it a tag line and keywords for the web crawlers. Nobody here is too interested in attracting the right so why not lean hard to attracting the left. Focus everything on targeting that demo.

Agree.

It seems the forum has naturally become a progressive community. If we lean hard into that we could increase uptake. Right now people have to dig deep into posts to understand that’s our focus. I’m sure some have been confused and just moved on.

Right now our tag line is “vigorous debate and a little fun”. Why not “vigorous progressive debate and a little fun”. Or some other version.

Gen Z and millennials lean strongly progressive. Let’s target them. Bump our BLM and other threads.

Hell let’s write a manifesto and pin it. It can shout out that this is the place you were looking for if you want to fight the right, support trans rights, BLM, socialism etc.

What will the manifesto say about billionaires?

Agree. Perhaps we should nominate a couple people to draft a short manifesto and some tag lines then put them to the community to vote.

I’d be happy to help. Maybe get a couple people further left as well like yourself, Johnny, micro, catface etc.

Seems good if we had some nice copy at the top. Maybe the mini manifesto.

Instead of a bunch of somewhat self-absorbed middle aged men trying to decide what people want, how about asking @nano for a frank appraisal of this site, why her peers who are interested in politics aren’t flocking to it, what would make it more appealing to them and which forums they go to (if any) instead?

cc @microbet in case she doesn’t see this.
