Same in Vermont in the late 1980s.

Likewise in MD in the 2000s. Stores also started to sell these one-size-fits-all stretchy covers that you could pull over the book. Never saw wallpaper used though, lol.

This too, but wallpaper was the real deal. One year all we had was leftover from this very fancy, textured wallpaper, it had sort of lumps? No idea what it was called, on to the books it went though.

I know he must have ripped it off from some other movie, but I’ve always loved this scene and always wondered why more films didn’t use the conceit of narrating the story while acting it out.
