Clovis is making a good point though that those movies and books are terrible and no one over maybe 9 years old should have seen or read them.
Grunching but he’s right. Potter, Tolkein and Star Wars - all drivel for kids.
Earnest appraisal
Harry Potter: 5-11 year olds
Star Wars: 5-13 year olds
Tolkein: 9-17 year olds
There are elements some of the Star Wars movies and in the Tolkein books that are good for adults, but on the whole they are for kids/adolescents.
Happy to join clovis on this.
Potter: lol didn’t read or watch any
GOT: lol didn’t read. Quit watching after S1.
LOTR: read the hobbit. Didn’t watch(this may be a mistake)
Star wars: saw the 3 originals. After the one with jar jar binks…lol fool me once…well I just won’t be fooled again.
Definitely not, unless you mean you might have watched it and forgotten because it was so bad. That happened to me with the second Thor movie lol.
I have a little experience with Harry Potter - because I have children. Star Wars and LOTR were there when I was a kid.
Closest I came to watching LOTR was when my roommates got it from blockbuster. I was asleep within 10 minutes. Best 4 hour nap of my life.
Understanding the pop culture that shapes the lives and entire cultures of hundreds of millions of people has immense value.
What’s y’all’s opinion on the marvel avenger type movies? There’s what 30 of them…are they worth watching?
I’ve seen iron man 1, and antman 1. And that’s it.
IYO, is it possible to understand by just knowing they exist, and knowing for example like clovis mentioned that qubbithch is h potter game?
I watch them when I’m high af and most are ok then. I don’t rewatch any ever though. I had this issue with movies I rented on PS4 where I pay and then realize 10 minutes in I already rented and hated the movie. That would piss me off when it happened.
lol good god these fucking hot takes
This is my strategy when I think a movie will be rewatchable. Makes the 2nd or 3rd viewing more entertaining.
I went to the first LotR movie on opening day because I loved Peter Jackson back then. It’s hard to quite remember now, but Bad Taste, Braindead and The Frighteners are far more cannon worthy than all those elves and what have you.
I seriously doubt Potter will have the kind of lasting impact LotR or Star Wars did. Are kids today even reading the books?
Potter movies are ones I never got through. I made an effort in the winter to go through them but I didn’t get into them.
I have nothing against people who watch those movies. To each their own. They are just not for me.
PS other than the fandom for those franchises has driven out the funding for mid tier film aimed at adults like me.
PPS. I have only seen the LOTR films once but I liked them. Never liked a Star Wars movie though. That whole thing is baffling to me.
There are moments in the first 3 Star Wars movies that are fantastic imo. John Williams really helps. James Earl Jones is awesome. Just from an artistic point of view. And obviously kids movies can be fantastic artistically, eg Snow White.
To be clear I’m not saying they are objectively bad. I’m saying they are not my thing. 90% of the movies I love would be hated by most people. My favourite films consist mostly of people doing nothing and just talking.
