I used to eat there at least once a week in the late 80s until I found a much better small cafe around the corner.
The highlight of all those cheap evenings being abused was having the cutlery literally thrown across the long table at us by the waiter, and stopping it before it hit the floor lol.
The small cafe wasn’t much better on politeness - after one drinking session a pal and I got in there just before they were closing, ordered the usual things but clearly weren’t eating quickly enough for the owner, who came over to us, put my fork to my mouth and said “Eat faster, eat faster!”.
So there you go - even ruder than the Wong Kei.

Yeah, there is no acceptable scenario where an adult should be using a straw without a lid, and lids solve the floaty straw problem.

That or bars invest in them. Single use convenience has got us where we are vis-a-vis waste so yes maybe if people insist on using straws they should carry one with them when needed.
That’s fine. I’m just saying whenever I went to Europe they give you the straw (used to) and everyone just sits there and pretends their straws aren’t constantly trying to escape and make a mess. It’s mass delusion. Diet coke is the worst.
I do think soda tastes better through a straw - but I’m still all for doing away with them.
