I guess the guy is mad that poor people don’t shop at Whole Foods? I guess they’re supposed to just get a loan from their parents or something.
It’s their fault that they’re poor in the first place, ldo. They should stop being poor (what a stupid choice!) and then buy lots of food from Whole Foods. The more stuff you eat from Whole Foods the skinnier you get. It’s science, ask Dr. Oz.
Take a wild guess who initially funded Whole Foods and what John Mackey’s socioeconomic background is.
Didn’t read the article, but the sub-heading is a masterpiece in not seeing obvious contradictions.
John Mackey, who espouses a high-minded version of capitalism, sold his upscale grocery chain to Amazon.
Such a confounding coincidence that the correct answer for John Mackey, is the same as for Gates and Bezos.
I’m sure he paid his own way. Libertarians would never accept hand outs.
Imagine if back in the day the USSR had had the world’s highest levels of obesity, while fast food restaurants sold heart disease burgers on every corner, and Pravda published think pieces where Kruschev Jr espoused a high-minded version of a command economy while he blamed poor people for being fat.
It’s funny to think about, but that is basically how we roll in America.
Don’t forget “Phillips Exeter > Harvard” Mark Zuckerberg
There really is something to be said for the argument that the US is becoming very “Soviet”. The combo of propaganda about how great the US is while it demonstrably falls behind other countries in measurable standards of quality of life feels very Soviet. The fact that half the population actively tunes out the government because it is so full of shit. The existence of a narrow connected class that had a lot to lose if the facade is torn down. The last step will be when Republicans steal this election and start persecuting anyone who speaks against the Party.
There are differences of course, but systems that have top-down hierarchical structures will share similarities–American corporations and a command economy enterprises both have an authoritarian power structure. The parallels have always been there, imo, it’s just that it’s easier to identify them as a 3rd party observer rather than when you are one of the frogs being boiled.
I’ve been hating Mackey for almost 27 years and it’s always nice to see more people hop aboard the train.
I miss Wild Oats though I imagine the owners were just as evil as Whole Foods guy.
Eta I couldn’t actually afford to buy anything there, except occasionally a muffin and coffee but I liked to sit on their balcony and read and watch the hipsters wander around the store.
This is absolutely sickening.
These are pretty good.
