LC Thread 2020: What the PUNK? ROCK.

I used beard trimmer to the lowest setting then my electric razor. Worked great.

Fuuuuck that. Just having him on validates the guy big time. Rogan needs to realize he’s not some dumb comic anymore talking to people. He’s the second most influential man in the country behind Trump, and maybe Obama.

Every largely apolitical low-info dudebro follows him like a god. Which makes it worse because they’re going to get political and swing to one side or the other at some point.

I bet you can put like 30% of the blame for Jordan Peterson’s rise to prominence - on Rogan having him on 5 times.

I mean okay, I don’t live in America anymore but a handful of people I know there listen to JRE and the response to the question, “Do you listen to the JRE?” from everybody else I know ranges from, “Who is that?” to “What is a podcast?”

That’s what I’ve been doing for the past 15 years.

Yes, but his regular listening audience clocks in at about 10 million people, which is more than many prime time shows on Fox or CNN. His total audience of people watching his clips on YouTube and stuff like that is shockingly high, like several hundred million a month which is like 1/4 to 1/2 of the number of views of content on something like CNN. It’s insane. There’s a whole bunch of people who get almost all their information from Rogan.

Yeah but his show is available worldwide. How many people watching that are American and out of that, how many are even eligible to vote? I’d argue that basically everybody watching Fox News is registered to vote. What percentage of JRE viewers do you think are registered to vote in American elections?

He’s got a huge audience and it’s largely young males who are just starting to form their political opinions. Think “both sides are bullshit mannnn” UFC fans. His viewpoints and the people he exposes his audience to gain massive leverage in shaping opinions among dudes.

Same boat here. Haven’t had a cut since February and I’m looking pretty shaggy. I think if I get a few more months in it’ll be long enough to do some kind of man bun, which Mrs. Catface is very excited for, but for the time being it looks ridiculous. On the plus side I kind of like showing up to court looking like the disheveled shell of a man that I’ve always been on the inside.

Oh I’ve decided to fully embrace the quarantine style club and not get a haircut or regularly shave and I’m starting to look pretty caveman. I can’t grow normal facial hair but I can grow a pretty great/stupid moustache so I didn’t shave for a few weeks, had a handlebar moustache for two weeks, went clean and now i’m growing it out again. Now that I’ve gone this far I can’t quit and it gets easier and less annoying having long hair.

Wow, I don’t know how you guys have gone since February. I don’t think I’d had a cut since late November or December 2019, and I thought I was going to let it grow, but I gave up and let MrsWookie do the deed over a month ago. I was getting way too long.

Buy the Wahl trimmer kit from Costco. I use a No. 3 guard which I think is 3/8". I’ve never shaved my head completely, but I wouldn’t expect your razor or trimmer to just plow through a ton of hair without any hiccups. Mine bogs down a little sometimes and I’m only trimming off an inch or less. I think it will be worse for you.

I’ve been doing the same - cutting my hair with a Wahl pro-grade beard trimmer. Super easy. I look like crap with long hair. My head is gigantic enough w/o making it look bigger.

My husband finally convinced me to cut his hair. He wanted it short on the sides and longer on top. I told him that I was not responsible if anything bad happened because I had no idea what I was doing.

Turned out ok except for one place on the side of his head where My hand slipped and I went a little close with the comb/clippers.

Whatever. I didn’t do it on purpose but he is now waiting for a salon appointment instead of letting (ahem…making) me do it again.

Mission accomplished!

Not crazy at all - that’s how I did mine in Apr/May (whenever it was). Leant over the bath and used a pair of sewing scissors (those orange handled ones) and chopped away until most hair was gone and then hit it with a fresh razor - again over the bath using other hand to feel how I was doing. Not a single nick/cut so 100% success. 20 mins.

I read this post in Hannibal Lecter’s voice.

Rogan is really a symptom of the broader untreated disease of the internet, but I agree that his influence is very destructive. What makes his show so awful is that it is based on a perversion of the following piece of wisdom: Smart people challenge the status quo by improving on it. That’s a good thing! But Rogan (and others) dumb this down to If you’re challenging the status quo you must be smart. This is objectively wrong and in the internet age is profoundly dangerous. The internet gives every idiot with a contrary view a platform. If you are trained to think they must all be smart for being contrary then the only conclusion you can reach is that every view is equally valid. In other words facts don’t matter. What could go wrong?

I shaved my head with a regular razor for a while when I was younger. I cut myself a lot and there was a lot of blood. Especially the back of your head will be a challenge. I do not recommend it.
If you have someone who can do it for you that’s much easier.

This is also true in my experience.

Anyone fancy working for amazon? A sweet job using their huge data to discover and crush any nacent union activity. Now you can be the evil asshole in all the dystopian Sci fi movies!

What about your hair though?

Always gotta enjoy euros being completely flabbergasted by standard American stuff. Everyone knows amazon is a terrible place to work, even in the professional type jobs, but people are dying to get those jobs, because everything sucks.
