LC Thread 2020: What the PUNK? ROCK.

Oh don’t worry didn’t think you meant that as a statement on him just was mentioning one of his better roles compared to black panther, but black panther did have a bigger impact and most people knew him for that. And yeah he def had a huge impact on a lot of people

My mom passed from cancer in her 30s, my dad is his 50s, Chadwick at 43, and Henry Kissinger is still alive at 97. If I punched God in the face He wouldn’t even stay mad at me for it.

We may have Boseman to thank for “Karen”.

Also man this movie was huge. I remember there were a lot of people raising money to be able to take busses full of school kids to see it

The good thing is that the bad guy(s) is also black and a badass so any little black youths on my wavelength will still feel represented.

Still, as much as I enjoyed being in its cosmos visually, and as warmly as I felt Wakanda welcomed me, Black Panther ultimately left me feeling cool by its end. This was largely because I couldn’t get myself to root against its antagonist, Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) and because I found its ending political message far more conservative than the revolutionary possibilities teased by anything with “Black” and “Panther” in the title.

it’s quite appropriate to have a nuanced opinion of Black Panther ’s politics while also celebrating the unabashed joy of seeing Black audiences witness Black life depicted through Black eyes.

Those movies are for children. If you’re 40 years old and you don’t have kids, you don’t have to watch them.

The Soviet Russia ones are mostly terrible too

This and the Tom Hanks one are GOAT.

Forgot that was Chadwick Boseman.

I find it both amusing and depressing that Rogan did this whole ‘opening third eye’ thing with psychedelics of every stripe and it turns out the secret truth of the universe is that 1950s-era gender roles are biologically innate. I was right to be dismissive of all that hippy shit (not a knock on psychedelics).

Just because TDKR sucks and has a muddled philosophy at best does not make Bane with his plan to nuke a city the size of Chicago a good guy.

Apparently one of the last public things Boseman did before he died was a public video message (on Facebook? not sure where) warning people about COVID and telling them to wear masks. He had to take it down because there were so many comments making fun of him for looking skinny.

Social media is absolutely the worst thing to ever happen to the human race.

The Movies thread has lately been take over by fan(s) of that genre, particularly one very high volume poster who I’m unable to put on ignore.

Suggestions to create a thread for super hero films got no support.

Disney movies like Frozen are for children, the average age of people seeing Marvel movies is definitely closer to 40 than 13. That’s why they make a billion.

“Stock and trade” is the kind of thing a stupid waiter would say, IMO.
