Oh fond memories when the Republicans were doing their last ditch effort to repeal Obamacare, just literally adding shit into the margins and then voting on it with like 6 hours of review
Northern Ireland (and anyone in GB who regularly moves goods across the Irish Sea) will go absolutely fucking nuts if this passes. Anyone whoâs seriously considering voting this through in 3 days without anything approaching proper scrutiny needs voting out of office.
Am on single parent duties this week, so have even less of a clue whatâs going on than usual. What do they think theyâve achieved by passing the bill but voting to wait? So everyone can claim to be pro Brexit in an election? Anyone have any hot takes to explain?
Heseltine on TV said MPs had voted with the government in the first vote because they wanted the chance to vote for one of the amendment (which would be impossible without approving the first vote). He went on to predict the second vote (the timetable) would fail, so thereâs good reason to think he was probably right.
The likely explanation is that Boris and his team of tactical geniuses are aware that given the numbers in Parliament the only way this deal gets through in a sensible time frame is with a series of opposition amendments (customs union, EU citizensâ rights, workersâ rights, process to prevent no deal).
Scrutiny is Borisâ Kryptonite. The only way he was ever getting anything over the line was with the fake urgency of an even worse alternative, so with that gone he knows the game is up and his only play is to demand a GE and hope the angry gammon army will give him a majority. The bad news is they probably will.
