Are those the same One Nation values that led her to design the hostile environment for immigrants and to the Windrush scandal?

While itā€™s great that Rudd has done this Iā€™m not convinced her move is not one of expediency rather than a result of some deeply held conflict.

Iā€™m not going to hit google but my, albeit rubbish, memory tells me that Rudd bends with the wind a lot so sheā€™s still on my list of UK deplorables.

Oh thereā€™s no doubt sheā€™s a consummate politician with her finger in the air telling her which way to move, and with little or no moral scruples whatsoever.

Her resignation is interesting for what it tells us about the state of the Johnson cabinet. Fidget was right about a sinking ship - the captain hasnā€™t a clue about how to get the support of his own colleagues, and doesnā€™t seem to understand thatā€™s how politics works (or doesnā€™t, in his case).

On the subject of Johnson, a friend of mine who lives in social housing in the same Islington street as Johnsonā€™s large town house (when he was married) tells me gleefully that Johnson was so accustomed to being called a wanker by neighbours as he set off on his bike each morning that his MO for dealing with it was a faux cheery ā€œMorning!ā€ and a wave of his hand.

Everyone seems happy that Boris could end up in prison .

He would love that. Futile and simplistic rebellion free of contentā€¦ it would be lapped up by the tabloids.

And what happens next. He refuses, stays in prison for 2 weeks while we crash out? Thatā€™s a win for him.

It may force the rebels to form an alternative government in the last week of October, but 1. We are then relying on Corbyn and and the anti-corbyn folks making a deal and 2. We are running very close to the wire.

Agree that it would likely help him in the eyes of Brexiteers, but I donā€™t think Johnsonā€™s the martyr type - you need some strength of conviction. Also, I donā€™t think they would really put a PM like him in jail. Whatever happens heā€™ll get his election at some point in November, very probably, I guess this is all theatre for that.
