Rees-Mogg apologises for ‘unacceptable’ comments
The leader of the Commons, Jacob Rees-Mogg, has apologised to Dr David Nicholl for comparing him to Andrew Wakefield, the disgraced anti-vaxxer who was widely blamed for the MMR jab scare. According to the Press Association, Rees-Mogg has said:

I apologise to Dr Nicholl for the comparison with Dr Wakefield. I have the utmost respect for all of the country’s hardworking medical professionals and the work they do in caring for the people of this country.

The government is working closely with the NHS, industry and distributors to help ensure the supply of medicine and medical products remains uninterrupted once we leave the EU on 31 October, whatever the circumstances.

Rees-Mogg had earlier come in for serious criticism from high profile sources, including the chief medical officer for England and the British Medical Association.

The only thing they understand is potentially losing some money in a libel lawsuit. That’s literally the only way (other than a half brick in a sock I guess) to wipe the smug smile off these guys faces even for a second.

that’s certainly the position of some of the brexiters. It’s got a couple of problems though.

  1. It assumes this is a zero sum game. While there elements of this (e.g. the final payment) most are not.

  2. There are a number of pairs of things they are asking for that are just impossible.

  • No hard border in ireland/no backstop or customs union
  • Freedom of travel in the EU/no freedom for EU nationals
  • Access to the free trade area/No controls over imports and external trade deals

Doesn’t matter how strong your negotiating position is, you can’t negotiate the impossible.

Odds are against Johnson delivering any Brexit deal by 31st October, so Labour are best advised to go for a later election.

Boris Johnson’s first concrete proposal for replacing the Irish backstop has hit the buffers in the latest “disastrous” meeting between the prime minister’s chief negotiator and the EU.

In a heavily trailed move, Johnson’s envoy, David Frost, proposed an all-Ireland food standards zone on Friday, but the UK is also seeking to give the Stormont assembly a say on whether it would continue in the years ahead.

The main point to consider here is never buy shares in companies that are controlled by a one person (see also Mike Ashley).

Even as a Celtic fan I still h8 Ashley’s guts lol

The thing about all these expelled Tories, though, is that they’re politely quitting rather than trying to actually do anything. I suppose they are Tories, though, so expecting something is pointless.
