All government buildings in England, Wales and Scotland will fly the Union flag every day, following new guidance from the culture department.
Currently flags are only required to be flown on certain days such as the Queen’s birthday.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden described the flag as “a proud reminder of our history and the ties that bind us”.
Government buildings in Northern Ireland are covered by a separate law.

One thing that’s pissed me off for years is how often we’re expected to believe that armoured police with weapons are the ones suffering the brunt of the injuries in clashes with obviously unarmed protestors. It’s clearly insane that it would be the case, even if you accept the also transparently studpid ‘they started it’ narrative. Yet it’s spewed out and reported credulously time after time.

Fellow returning expat Shaun Cromber voted Leave but said he did not believe Brexit would end his Spanish lifestyle.
He said: "Yes I voted out, but I didn’t realise it would come to this.
"My application has been rejected and we are on our way home – my wife is in tears, she’s distraught if I’m honest and I’m not too happy at the prospect of returning back to the UK.
