Kamala / Walz 2028

And then got dismantled by a white dude a few months later

Yeah, if things continued with Biden as the 24 nominee, youā€™d likely have a Whitmer/Newsom showdown in 28, and Tim would be wayyyyyyy deep on the bench

It feels like the evidence for this is lacking.

We are more optimistic than we were 40 days ago, but if you think anyone here womt be white knuckling the results thread all night on the 5th youre taking crazy pills

Ok, I see why they left Newsom off Thursday. Its a clear push to take the senate and he has no place there

This yearā€™s still tough because heā€™s the Republican nominee but if he loses this year itā€™s going to be knives out to block him from being the 82-year-old nominee in 4 years.

Ok this one is good

Seems to be some chatter about a ā€œsurpriseā€ tonight. Seems like the most common Twitter guess is Beyonce, with a sprinkling of TSwift.

Been wondering about Beyonce. Especially to the extent that a lot of what gets gained during a convention in 2024 is viral internet clips, a Beyonce appearance would be fantastic.

Yeah, Beyonce would seem to make a lot of sense since sheā€™s using her song as the main theme. Would be very cool.

I have it on good authority that the surprise is Chris Daughtry from American Idol

Taylor finished her Europe tour two days ago. Definitely not impossible.

My prediction: Dems learn absolutely nothing from this election cycle. We are still 2+ months away from an election and polls are insanely close despite the enthusiasm. This was not the result of some sophisticated plan. It entirely came out of Biden weirdly scheduling a June debate and completely flubbing it showing that heā€™s showing the typical signs of aging that 82 year olds do, after obviously trying to hide it from the country for a while. Nothing that happens this year will affect the future. Any dem success now or in 4 years will be completely accidental.

My bad, this probably belongs in the dem thread. I love the current vibes and the way things are headed, but it happened mostly by chance, and I just donā€™t have faith in the party to recreate this environment again via the traditional candidate selection process.

Donā€™t disagree. You do it tonight if you have it in your arsenal, since youā€™ll never have more eyeballs before Election Day. Although I wonder if thereā€™s more value in getting them out to stadium rallies in battleground states if they are willing, where you can run GOTV and registration drives.

In case anybody else hadnā€™t actually seen the moment that the GOP has been mocking today.

Eh I think there is one thing that actually gives me hope out of these past few days.

Change is always more gradual and less obvious than we hope for. But go back to Hillary and Dem speeches on policy in 2016 and how contrasted the Bernie/AOC positions were back then.

In this cycle, Bernie and AOC donā€™t seem that distinct from your run of the mill Democrat. Tim Walz seems like heā€™s perfectly positioned to make a positive case for expanded Government Safety Net policies to people who are suspect of those things working for them.

I think the Democrats have moved left in the last 10-20 years and I donā€™t think it has cost them politically. We need to fade this cycle, but itā€™s very unclear what happens to the GOP after Trump does some combination of losing, going to jail, and/or dying.

My prediction: Jeb!

Iā€™d honestly give it some nonzero chance of being Pence, except that - given that he just got done delusionally running for the nomination of the Hang Mike Pence party - I doubt he has actually fully given up on his GOP comeback yet.
