Kamala / Walz 2028

Walz had a great line about you don’t draw up a playbook unless you intend to use it.

You’re thinking of 2020

Only thing I didn’t like about the Walz speech is that it is almost a word for word rerun of the intro speech he gave a couple weeks ago.

I think it’s exactly the opposite.

I only watched a couple minutes since it was late and the wife went to bed, but I saw he repeated some lines from previous speech highlights posted here pretty much verbatim. Was it only a little bit of repeated stuff?

Charlie is really out of touch with a large percentage of adult males.

The thing that’s so appealing about Walz is his authenticity and his normalness, trying to orate like an Obama or create a new speech to keep it fresh would kind of undermines that. I like how simple and direct his message, his word choices, and his metaphors are, but it also means that it can be repetitive and shorter than we’re used to

Felt fresh to me overall despite some repeats, but I also don’t get fussed about repeat lines. This was presumably his biggest audience yet by a lot; playing the hits is okay. If you watch the speech and have been following closely enough to recognize bits from speeches he previously gave during daytime speeches on weekdays, you’re probably a decided voter who was already voting for him (or you’re covering the election as part of your job). Continuing to use your best material as your audience broadens is just fine.

Totally agree. Last night was likely the first time that a few million voters heard him speak. And he has the ability to repeat lines while still making them sound natural and genuine.

Plus he’s the VP nominee! I can’t remember the last time when I cared so much about who the VP nominee was or remembered any of their speeches. Tim Kaine 2016? Nope. Joe Biden 2008? Nope. Joe Lieberman 2000? Hell no! I remember Gore made out with his wife at the convention, but I’m not sure if that was when he has the top of the ticket or the VP nominee.

Honestly, I kinda wish Nancy would force Kamala to drop out so Tim can become the Presidential nominee.

I’ve been saying this since before Kamala picked Tim.

re: Texas polling showing Cruz up only 2%

In 2018 there was a pretty big miss against Cruz. He closed at +6.8 in polls, but only won by +2.6. If there’s a similar effect, that race might be a toss up.

On the other hand, the last time Trump was on the ballot in 2020:

President poll: Trump +1.2
President actual: Trump +5.6

Senate poll: Cornyn +5.9
Senate actual: Cornyn +9.6

I’m not falling for this purple Texas nonsense again until the Dems get serious about Hispanic outreach.

My partner was also mentioning that Walz would’ve been a great POTUS candidate. Outside of her association with myself, I’d consider her normal.

The crazy thing is that neither Kamala or Walz get through a traditional primary (albeit for different reasons). If Kamala wasn’t VP when Joe’s brain turned to mush, she would never get the nomination, and if Walz wasn’t picked by Kamala, then he would almost certainly have no shot in the future either (less sure about that, but still pretty sure).
