Yeah, Shapiro was not my choice for VP, but he’s the most crucial surrogate in the most crucial state now (yes, strangely I expect him to be more effective than Fetterman), and certainly at his age this was not his only chance at significant opportunities. I sympathize with what I’m sure is a disappointment and with the fact that he’s going to immediately have to turn around and summon the enthusiasm to do a great job at the rally tonight, but if he’s the impressive political talent he’s talked up to be then his help could matter a lot.

Turned on MSNBC an immediate have some gas bag whining that Shapiro was torpedoed by an online attack from the left and Kamala fell for it. Tim Walz in “Bernie-like.” “Not a safe pick.” Etc etc. So I guess the attack lines will be of the “socialist takeover” ilk, and I trust Walz and Harris to be able to handle those attacks well.

I had a happy cry of just a release of so much rage and bitterness this morning waking up to this news. I don’t think it’s weird at all. Hope has been nonexistant for a really long time on the left and even getting a glimpse of it here is emotional. I had frankly been so so angry since Super Tuesday 2020 and this for the first time since then feels like maybe something actually good is happening.
People are DESPERATE for this kind of thing and it’s really a stark contrast the vision for this country that someone like Walz has vs. Trump/Vance. I think Kamala and Walz are only going to get stronger the more exposure the country gets to them and Trump and Vance will have the opposite experience. Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself here but an Obama level blowout is on the table now I think.
