Kamala / Walz 2028

Gaza put at least a bit of a damper on Biden. It is probably better for Kamala if people can at least imagine that she might be different.

Hopefully, Pete said ā€œif you don’t pick me, pick Walzā€. And hopefully Walz said the same about Pete in his talks with her.

I think those are the only two who can really keep the vibes going.

Beshear isn’t as good as those two in front of a camera from what I’ve seen.

Kelly is meh.

Shapiro would be a step backwards.

Picking Shapiro might cost them Michigan. ā€œUncommittedā€ got 13% of the primary vote here due to Biden’s handling of Israel. You risk losing a lot of turnout here.

Shapiro is a step backwards in terms of progressiveness, but his voice sounds exactly like Obama’s so that would be good vibes.

On one hand, if Beshear is actually capable, I would support picking him because it would bring us one half-inch closer to the ideal world where we only elect boring qualified nerds who don’t inspire a single person anywhere instead of letting the world’s fate hinge on a high-stakes American Idol contest. On the other hand, I’m left to operate within reality, so I realize that a talking log isn’t necessarily the best choice, even if he does have central-casting looks. Still, I’d be perfectly happy with the choice as what would feel like a do-no-harm pick.

Yeah I’ve come full circle on Walz. He’s definitely going to appeal to the type of voters in Pennsylvania that are skeptical of Harris. Also not a distraction in a good way, disarmingly authentic and good at connecting with people and advocating policy. I think he’s a great pairing with Kamala, and would be a great #2 over a 4 year term.

He’s also the tallest, and much as we’d not like to admit it, I think that matters to a lot of low info voters subconscious.

Also, the more I see of Kelly I think he’s an OK but not great politician, he can’t communicate like some of these other candidates, his resume is better than the actual Mark Kelly in the flesh as a candidate.

Found the person who is NOT from the Midwest

Also, get you a Veep whose spouse can raise more money than some of the other candidates…

Harris/Emhoff called them when their son was in the hospital. I mean, come ON

Walz is a no brainer for me. He’s charismatic, likeable, tall, presents well, coined the most effective piece of messaging the Dems have had in a while. He’s a progressive, he walks the walk on organized labor. He has folksy Midwestern appeal to older voters and policy appeal to younger voters.

I also think he is serious J.D. Vance Kryptonite. Like I would expect Pete to win a debate with Vance pretty handily but at the end of the day it’s Harvard v Yale up there. I could see a Walz v Vance debate being a real humiliation.

I get the argument for Shapiro delivering PA but I think he presents too much downside risk. Can Dems just ā€œkeep the vibes rollingā€ for 3 months, probably not. But right now the GOP are struggling for an angle of attack on the Harris campaign. We know how much noise and bullshit the right-wing media machine are capable of creating once they latch onto something. I think the strategy should be to not give them anything. What’s the angle of attack on Tim Walz? Good luck.

I’ve never heard ā€œOpeā€ in my life.

God I hope so.

nice :+1:t3:

I’m here as well.

Here is my impression of what Kamala would be thinking for each pick:

Walz - I’m actually serious about trying to move the party in a progressive direction with someone who has actually accomplished a lot.
Pete - I want someone I’m very familiar with and is the best talker of the group. He’s also young and it’s time that generation is represented.
Beshear - I want someone who is popular with red state America. Even if he can’t deliver me Kentucky, it will be a good show of faith that I’m looking to be president of all Americans.
Kelly - I want to recapture some of the southwest that may have been lost in recent years. He should help me with the border and with guns.
Shapiro - I want a fellow AG and I’m really, really, really desperate for Pennsylvania. It’s worth the risk of possibly alienating some of my supporters.

I bet you have.

It’s that little sound we Midwesterners make when we narrowly miss running into someone, for example.

ā€œope, sorry about thatā€

ā€œOpeā€ for when you almost run into somebody.

ā€œWelpā€ for when you share an elevator ride with a coworker you’ve already made chit chat with that day.
