Kamala / Walz 2024

It was quite the feat by SNL to put out an actually good Black Jeopardy sketch after the Tom Hanks MAGA one (which was so good I thought that they would retire it forever).

What, we can’t tell jokes about white people tacos anymore without the PC snowflakes getting all upset?

Nothing would piss me off more than having a Friday night football game turned into a political event.

That was my first thought as well. I think that’s a terrible idea.

The game is supposed to be about the kids who put an entire year’s worth of work into a handful of Friday nights where they get to play.

There’s a huge difference between showing up to Minnesota HS Football games as the Governor (showing you and the people of Minnesota recognize and appreciate the hard work these kids put in) and as the VP Candidate (where the event isn’t about the kids but is about you trying to gain support for your campaign)

Then throw in the fact that the people whose game you’re overshadowing can’t even vote yet and the whole thing just doesn’t sit right with me

The price gouging plan and $25k home buying credit both seem really dumb at first glance. Taking money from rich people and giving it to poor people seems like a much better solution to these “problems”.

It is. The problem is that doing that doesn’t poll well while self defeating policy does poll well.

Subsidizing first time home buyers is on net a transfer from rich to poor, even if not perfectly targeted.

I believe her plan also includes bigger subsidies for first generation home buyers.

So, the first-time homebuyers thing is being tested in CA right now. CA Dream For All provides down payment assistance to first time homebuyers (income-based) in exchange for that % equity in the home. So when you sell it, the program gets it’s money back, essentially. So after the initial investment by the state, it should be virtually self-funding.

It had so much demand that it ran out of funds in less than two weeks. Then it had more money added and ran out again in a week. It’s too new to see how well the equity buyback portion will work, but lemme tell you, it’s definitely popular.

He should crash the high school kids’ parties afterwards.

This is exactly how my mom was able to buy a home in Blue Springs, MO when I was in 8th grade. The state or feds (not sure) paid half of the equity of the home, then got it back when she sold.

THAT’S SOCIALISM!

The most common federal assistance for home buyers of that time was the FHA loan where you would pay 3% down. The mortgage limits were quite low back in the day. When I was doing FHA appraisals in the early-mid-90s the limit was about $100k in SoCal, which meant they were for properties in lower-income neighborhoods throughout LA or out in the desert. At some point the limits went up a lot and I think became high enough for like median market everywhere.

And it was a mortgage insurance program and did not lose money for the government.

Literally zero chance they know this.

The problem is, that money rarely finds its way into the hands of the people who need it. Prevention from being gouged immediately helps working class families

Does it matter? If it did, I think we’d expect a lot more women leaders and stuff like abortion law almost wouldn’t be a question.

I remember at plenty of Trump rallies in 2016 there were women who said, “Yeah, I don’t think a woman should be President”. I’m not sure I’ve seen a single clip of one this time around, but I’m sure one of you will post one at some point.
