I think it is. In the 90s no one would have thought that it was out of line. I think Pinette in particular was kind of immune from criticism because his whole act had a self deprecating vibe to it. I think that in 2021 it’s easier to see how close that clip is to this one:

Indeed it is, 1998. I think at the time it would have been progressive to acknowledge the racism and acts like Pinette were very main stream. The thin line there is Krusty’s use of buck teeth and squinting eyes to mock the stereotyped appearance of a Chinese person. Pinette does “just” the voice. I guess that’s where the line was in 1998.
