Most of the stuff that gets put into a recycling bin ends up in a landfill. Glass, metals and (if it’s clean) plain brown cardboard stand a pretty good chance of actually getting recycled. Plastics and all other paper largely don’t.

Then you can compost it. At least that is what happens to mine.

Well, it goes into the compost bin. Not sure exactly what happens when the truck takes it to the facility.

I think you’re right. The directions on my county’s garbage site make it sound like either cardboard is pristine enough to recycle or soiled enough by food to compost.

Yeah, same for me. Unless it’s spotless, I generally compost it because my weekly compost bin normally has more room than my recycle bin which normally is filled up to the brim every week.
