Joe Rogan

Isn’t people refusing to pay for or contract with Spotify the EXACT FUCKING REMEDY ALL THESE LIBERTARIAN BRO DIPSHITS HAVE BEEN ADVOCATING SINCE AYN RAND WROTE THAT DOGSHIT BOOK?

I think we have one or two recovering Libertarianbros ITF.

There are lots of them listening to Joe Rogan.

I think that the platforms being immune to defamatory and false content is a problem. Because, say, Facebook will algorithmically promote false or defamatory content if it generates engagement. And what’s it to them, who cares, they’re immune. And now a shocking amount of news is gotten through Facebook and their outrage optimization algorithm.

Newspapers are not immune and typically spent a lot of care and effort into making sure what they published was true and didn’t run afoul of libel laws.

They are against any criticism of Joe Rogan period. They would certainly oppose any attempt by Spotify to deplatform him. That’s the contradiction.

They want to win elections but also they want $$$ from the prison industry.

Do you object to me saying that Tipper was leading a censorship campaign against rap artists?

She was asking the government to act. That is censorship. Spotify situation is absolutely not.

“Censorship” is a pretty fluid word. It can include non-government action.

This assumes that one side is acting in good faith. It’s the Joe Manchin argument for retaining the filibuster.

In response to “what do I wanna do about it, huh?” - most of the progress that is being made on changing laws to suit the social media age are designed to target this failure specifically. Various countries are in various phases of implementing some kind of controls on the social media companies to force them to “limit speech” by not publishing misinformation. I’m not sure why we’d want to have a world where Facebook is forced to take down misinformation posts but Spotify is free to host as much misinformation podcasts as they like because << waves hands >> you know, they’re Just Asking Questions.

He used to have David Pacman on. Guy seems pretty decent, big online podcaster. Don’t know if David has gone on since Rogan has turned into a right wing shill though.

I know he purposefully blacklisted Sam Seder, likely due to the fact that same is an expert at debating and would absolutely clown him on any subject Rogan disagrees with. Plus Sam has dunked on a bunch of his " friends " like Ben Shapiro etc.

Both Facebook and Spotify should be liable for spreading falsehoods that are defamatory or promote fraud. I don’t care about “misinformation”.

Sure but 99% of the time it’s erroneously being explicitly or implicitly tied to the first amendment.

The first time the first amendment was mentioned was by you, just now.

They you are not in agreement with many laws that are in place now or are being implemented in various countries. Before the pandemic countries started down this road to block misinformation that interferes with free and fair elections. Given what’s happened during the pandemic this scope is likely to continue to increase.

Society simply can’t function without an agreed upon set of facts. Those commonly understood “facts” should be constantly challenged with new information and the application of reason, but that’s very different from allowing anyone everywhere to make wild unsubstantiated claims all the time. We may wish that FREEZE PEACH could work that way, but we know that it won’t.

We also know how not to do state censorship of “misinformation”. Thanks China!

But if they silence Joe Rogan I am worried they will force me to take down my Nazi propaganda. Slippery slope!

Any time you hear “slippery slope” the alarm bells should be going off that you’re talking to someone who is about to defend the indefensible.

Who decides what is misinformation? Who gets to block which claims?
