Yeah you’re completely wrong. He used to support almost all the progressive economic positions well before he endorsed Bernie. The only right leaning stuff he did was bitch about cancel culture but I mean he’s a comedian.
Now he is hitting all the right wing talking points
It’s fine saying he used to be more progressive, but “people were mean to me” is never the actual reason for this kind of change. At best it’s just that his treatment gave him an excuse to take the mask off.
This. Maybe you accelerate the defeat by being mean to them, but you’re never going to win that battle. The inexorable tug to grievance reactionary was always going to win out. Coddling never works.
With humans it comes down to peer group 99% of the time imo. There are very few Andy Kaufmans out there who thrive on being the lonely fish swimming upstream. If someone is leaning a certain way and can find a better peer group, they jump on it. But if they can’t, they usually adapt to get along.
This is part of what makes the deplorable herd such a force. To a large extent, their “value proposition” is to offer permission to people to be gigantic assholes. As long as you pledge allegiance and stay in your echo chamber, what you will hear constantly is that all your asshole traits are in fact virtues to be celebrated. That is a very appealing pitch to huge swaths of the population.
I always go back to that Easter Island thing which may or may not be true, but given America’s reaction to the pandemic I have no doubt it could be true:
Smart chief: Hey we need these palm trees, they provide food and shelter, we should stop cutting them down for firewood and making more Moai.
Islander hoi polloi: Well that sucks. I guess we’re in for some cold winters.
Some witch doctor: Nonsense! Use all the trees you want. We just need to build more Moai and the gods will provide for us.
100%. Plus, you can act like an asshole and there will never be any serious consequences! Which isn’t true if you act like an asshole on behalf of any left wing values.
I know what you are talking about but see it differently.
Joe Rogan has obviously never been anything close to a boomer talk-radio conservative. He has, however, had a rise that very much coincides IMO with that of the younger generation of the right that was raised by the internet.
The worldview of these people is almost entirely centered around SJWs being the worst people ever and that they are destroying society.
From 2013-2015 that shit was definitely a trend pointing towards Trumpism.
Joe Rogan wasn’t just concerned with cancel culture, he was obsessed with everything that fit in the SJW realm while also being the most gullible person on the planet.
Funny thing is he only actually worked construction for like a few months.
Him saying he has done it his whole life is weird. He has literally talked about having a construction job for only a short period of time when he was young.
