For some reason a lot of people really like hearing how the super famous/wealthy deal with interpersonal problems, everyday occurrences, and trauma. I couldn’t care less about how a multi hundred millionaire deals with their relationship with their mother, but lots of people do.

My understanding of the dynamic here is the following behaviour pattern:

Establish reverence of celebrities
Watch celebrities pretend that their lives have some common ground with yours because the lives of celebrities are filled with petty familial and relationship issues
Feel better about yourself because your petty familial and relationship concerns are echoed by celebrities, who are to be admired, therefore your petty familial and relationship concerns are valid

It’s basically a process to elevate a person’s own vapid and self centered life by mapping onto an “important” celebrity’s life. That’s why you can sell magazines about Brad Pitt’s affairs but not about the socioeconomic injustices that result in children starving to death or being locked in cages.

Something to that imo. My fascination beyond the droll omg celebrities is as you say, a fascination with how people approach life when they have unfathomable resources and privilege. It’s humbling and helps me cultivate a stronger connection to a wholehearted life when I see what vast resources can’t cure.

Man you guys are insane. I dont like Rogan but I used to listen to him a lot. Calling him a bigot is a massive reach. He fully supports trans. He made some bad jokes because hes a shit comedian but hes never been anything but supportive of trans rights.
