Jeopardy! Thread (No spoilers until after the show EST)

Did they ever say what Matt is studying in his PhD? Conspicuous to not mention it. Must be something embarrassing

So an anti-vaxx dipshit is the backup for when the main pick MeToos himself.

Also, Joe Buck is terrible and completely insincere. Never actually seen him call a ballgame, sure seems like all the Buck hate is well-deserved imo.

I assume they covered this in one of the interviews but I always fast forward through them

Wanted to hate buck but he’s not bad. Best host was that financial journalist lol

Joe Buck might be the worst pbp commentator in sports history. He has absolutely no emotion what so ever. I will never forget how he butchered The Helmet Catch, one of the most extraordinary plays in playoff history.

The Richards fellow was pretty solid but Blossom was whoa! Pretty sure Richards is gonna get Me Too’d at some point.

Buck has a negative VORP as a football caller but he’s WOAT at baseball.

But I love him on J

If it were to keep Joe away from sports broadcasting, I’d be all for making Joe the host of Jeopardy.

Bunch of olds complaining about playing optimally.

I don’t follow Jeopardy! closely but do we know with any degree of detail how the buzzer system works? I used to compete in / run the buzzers for quiz bowl which is something I found to be pretty shallow and annoying, but you didn’t have to wait for the moderator to finish reading. I can’t imagine playing it where you have to time out some dude clearing the buzzer lock.

There is a light that goes off upon completion of the host reading the clue thats tied to the buzzers. If you ring in before the light your buzzer is locked out for X time (I think 1 to 1.5 seconds)

I was thinking this same thing last night. Like when Matt is running away with the game in Double Jeopardy, why not just keep buzzing in first regardless of if you know the answer? You won’t have any chance of winning otherwise.

ETA: NVM, @CanadaMatt3004 explains above why that isn’t possible - though I think the strategy of buzzing in right when the light goes on whether you know the answer or not is a good one when Matt starts to run away with it.

Yeah, and its why people with big streaks can be so tough to stop. They get used to the timing and the hosts cadence and tie that to light/buzzer response. Matt has actually been at a huge disadvantage for a long time champ, not being able to rely on host familiarity since he has had 4 hosts in as many weeks.

Also, no I dont know how the timing/host reading is performed. I assume its manual by a judge off screen who hits the light as soon as the host finishes reading, but im not 100% on that

Right it’s because you can’t. The people I know who would be really good would definitely take “buzz in first automatically on every question” if that was an option. If your knowledge level isn’t high enough to do that then you aren’t winning Jeopardy! anyway unless it’s a super weak field.
