It's time to delete Metabook, Twitter and TikTok (and Reddit). Fuck it, social media is cancer - a thread.

Seriously. Just go with Richard Branson to get fitted for an entire wardrobe of white linen pants and go adventure or some shit.

Zuckerberg isn’t the first or last rich person (at all the different scales of “rich”) who never actually developed the skills to be happy and so constantly chases respect and love that they don’t know how to earn but they sure as hell will keep trying to buy. This is where the whole (poorly understood) concept of “money doesn’t by happiness” comes from.

This is so sad. VR is really cool and all (the Quest 2 is fantastic fun), but this Meta avatar shit is just pathetic. Any adult who is gung-ho about this should be ashamed. I could see kids enjoying meeting up in the “metaverse” with their avatars, but fuck off if you are an adult and are all into it. If it gets realistic one day, sure, but this shit? Come on.

WHERE IS THE VR PORN

Have never used this myself as Ive been off the stuff for years now, but word on the street is the free stuff is atrocious and the paid content stuff is actually quite good and immersive. Im sure the free stuff will catch up eventually but cutting edge tech and shit, you know how it is.

No, person who just woke up from a 50-year coma, we don’t have flying cars yet. But can I interest you in virtual reality cake farts?

They are having big debates about the graphics. Many inside Facebook want better graphics. John Carmack (founder of ID software, consultant on meta) strongly argues that having as many people in a shared space as possible is much more important.

I don’t think it matters because meta is dumb.

From what you’ve read, is anyone asking wtf it’s for? Like. What problem or need is meta trying to address?

Agreed.

But even “a widely used VR world” begs the question. Why would anyone want that? What’s the purpose? What problems does it solve?

Like. VR is clearly gonna have a bunch of uses. But I imagine its gonna be it’s own thing, not just “like the world now but in VR” which seems extremely unimaginative.

VR as something that serves it’s own purpose, and is interwoven between the real world and normal internet (video, text, image) seems much more likely.

Like we didnt create a text version of the real world when we created the text based internet. We used it in it’s own way.

Affordable full body heptic suits will be when VR moves from pipe dream to mainstream. But that has to be a wayyyyyys off

When do I get to have VR sex with a simulated Ana de Armas in a heptic bodysuit? JFC Zuckerberg, you have a billion dollars, make it happen already.

Ill say… 15 years.

I was thinking about it the other day, when that Amsterdam footage from the new CoD dropped. Its only been 40 years since the Atari 2600. Can you fucking imagine what happens in this space in the next 40 years?

Atari 10400!

The most common response seems to be about bringing people together virtually in ways they can monetize. Which is not clear. Meta world or whatever it is has user created content where users can decide what various areas are for.

I haven’t heard a good or consistent answer but I think Zuckerberg has mentioned workspaces virtually.

Virtual workspace would be a great idea.

But you know what? I don’t connect my teams chat and work files now to random dickheads on the internet. I keep it separated.

It’s pure underpants gnomes.

given the dual-class structure of Meta stock, it’s kind of a stretch to really call it a “public” company
