It's time to delete Metabook, Twitter and TikTok (and Reddit). Fuck it, social media is cancer - a thread.

Two and a half years into a pandemic and Facebook still wants me to be mad at people that wear masks. LOL WHAT A WIMP HYUCK HYCUK HYCUK.

they straight up hide posts from friends. if you think about it, interactions with your rl friends are probably the least profitable for them by far.

Yea for sure. And they used the boiling frog method to get to this point. It used to be all friends and group posts. Then the occasional ad. Then some ads and some suggested content. Now 95% ads and suggested content.

my latest mini hobby is trolling flat earth groups, but not how you’d imagine - it’s like 90% “globers” (as they are called) who quite frankly seem to be of average or below avg intelligence and are just desperate to feel smarter than someone. they’re amazing to get riled up.

ask me anything about FE theory, I’m becoming an expert!

How many flat earthers own Kyrie Irving jerseys?

that, I do not know, but there’s been a hilarious shift in this movement since stuff like that one documentary aired, where those flerfer’s accidentally proved the earth is round, as well as some other projects that did a similar thing. seems like there’s been a real effort at a unified theory, which is so funny, because the changes they keep making to their physics are leading them closer and closer to a globe and they dont know it yet

btw i’m super bearish on meta/fb. the reason is you can tell they have no clue why tiktok is successful.

the stuff theyve been doing with fb reels is obnoxious, basically forcing you to use it through sheer annoyance. that’s not how a good user experience works, lol.

another thing is IG/FB reels are not shareable! like, with tiktok, I can go to anyone’s post and get a link and that person can view and share that link basically anywhere. hell, even in this software, I think it will embed the video automatically.

with ig/fb reels, you can share the link, but then whoever clicks it has to jump through 40 hoops to log in or create an account first. that’s so obviously terrible, no idea why it’s that way.

I think tiktok is a horrible offender with data collection stuff, however, their algorithm seems entirely focused on showing you what you actually want to see, rather than what cuckerberg wants you to see, and thats why people prefer tiktok. it’s just better in practically every way (still prefer meta’s platforms, for now anyway)

I actually kind of agree that that guy’s relative appreciation of risk calculator is a bit off if he’s riding a motorcycle with no helmet…

True. However it could be that theres a cycle to these platforms.

Build something that people like that builds the user base and makes you a ton of money. Then be incentivised to make a worse and worse product while making more and more money, until you lose share to the next thing… which you buy with the piles of cash you’ve built up by exploiting your users.

I’m wondering if he’s wearing because of vehicle exhaust.

Mask won’t do shit against that.

Masks when biking is usually more to not swallow insects/dust etc… (obviously in more regional/rural terrain.

It’s not completely stupid in isolation, it is just when compared to not having a helmet on.

This is true but it also misses the point of Facebook. They know that they can hook people with the algorithm as long as they find the right toxic bullshit to push a person’s buttons. That image is in no way functioning as a public safety message for motorcycle helmets. If you have a little chuckle and click “like” on that image because you think he’s stupid for not wearing a helmet, Facebook isn’t going to start sending you helpful links to road safety videos. Facebook is going to say “Oh, you like that? Well here’s 1,000 more posts about how masks are child abuse, vaccines don’t work, and the pandemic is a hoax. Enjoy your personalized experience!”

Insecure people can’t help themselves. This is the part of “money doesn’t buy happiness” that is somewhat true. That statement is a gross oversimplification and is broadly misunderstood and often weaponized, but there is a kernel of truth to the idea that psychological failings will override the benefits of the money. Rich miserable people usually have unaddressed development and behavioral problems. Zuckerberg got powerful as an adolescent and that’s probably not good for anybody’s personal development.

This. Billionaires are such fucking sociopaths. Take your money and go the fuck away. You dont have to own/rule everything

What does Facebook, an obviously non-political and totally open and free domain for expression of human thought, want me to be angry about today?
