It's time to delete Metabook, Twitter and TikTok (and Reddit). Fuck it, social media is cancer - a thread.

Maybe we’re already in a metaverse and don’t know it.

Maybe it is for some people, and not for others? And perhaps this happens in gradations. Imagine people who live on internet forums, where the majority of their social interactions happen there rather than in “real life.” … there may be some people in this forum like that. … I think we’re already there, in many ways. But once sensory experience is introduced … once you can have sex in the metaverse … how long can that be? now, probably, in some ways we would perceive as limited … soon, in other ways … add in some drug to lower the mind’s resistance, “this isn’t real” …

the opposite of metabook is probably meditation

It should be noted that there are timelines where having virtual worlds is completely logical.

A world decimated by climate change where energy comsumption is highly regulated. Post WW3 etc…

If you go into the metaverse and forget you’re in the metaverse, it becomes your reality. Which is what has happened “here” in real life, many people believe. … nature replicates … Increasingly, my own sense is that none of this is what it appears.

The book would be better.

Some kind of giveaways will be massive, in the early metaverse days. There will be money to be had, in order to attract users and boost utilization. Users from this forum will migrate over, similar to the NFT and crypto chase.

On the off chance you’re not just continuing the joke, this is literally the plot of Ready Player One. And that book was way better than the movie. It’s a very quick read if youre interested - could get through it in a day or two - and seems more relevant now than ever before.

lol was not aware, thanks

I don’t even use Facebook, but the solution to its misinformation problem seems rather simple. Why are they trying to vet every story from every source on the internet? Why not vet the sites first? If a site gives accurate information, then they’re allowed on the platform. Sites that give bad information don’t get on the platform. Then just filter appropriately to keep misinformation from showing up on users’ newsfeeds. And Facebook needs to have some liability for libelous content just like any other media outlet. Easy peasy.

that’s bad for profits tho

Ready Player One was just a knockoff of an earlier Tad Williamson series called Otherland. If you want a long-form gorgeous sci-fi/fantasy read, check it out.

Otherland is three books when it should have been one. Too much of the plot reminded me of video game levels where the characters move from one set piece to the next without making any progress or learning anything new. It‘s still a decent read if someone is into the subject matter, I suppose.

Literally every thing they do is shady.
