Yeah we need technology to make people less present.
Correct. Also the whole thing is Riker’s fault because he gets manipulated by a woman that sleeps with him to get him to take the game to the ship. C’mon Riker! Keep it in your pants!
That episode was great because Wesley was too busy studying and being an antisocial nerd to play the VR game that literally everyone else on the ship was getting into.
lol that’s the first clip of any of this I’ve watched and it’s legit terrifying. Like fucking hire people to do the on camera stuff, my guy, Jesus Christ.
Anecdotal ldo, but I had a Twitter account get perma’d for tweeting the words “white trash.” Their AI read it as “racist.” Appealed, perma upheld.
For shits and giggles I reported a picture someone posted as a reply to someone else today in a Dolphins thread that read “Ni**a what?” The tweet, pic and account are all still up after three separate reports.
They are glossing over the fact that the protagonist in Snowcrash is literally called “Hiro Protagonist”.
Fixed title since I did the last one I guess

There is actually a need to connect with people better.
I’m not convinced its VR though.
If anyone has used a massive full size telepresence unit, it’s pretty cool. I think that done with projectors and cameras from your phone is a lot more likely to be the thing.
Being able to properly sit around a virtual table and drink with your buddies would be nice.
This post seems right, except I’m not really sure what is the difference between the internet today and the “metaverse.” Things happen online which are treated as important and have no impact on the “outside” world. A lot of reporting gets done about tweets and online only interaction, for instance.
The key in all this is the “virtual world of potentially equal importance” to the real world … still feels like this already happened.
All I know is that zuck better leave a treasure hunt in his metaverse that leads to his his billions when he dies. An UP clan could probably take it down.
This snake has one motive and only one motive: to print money for himself and his owners. Look how craven he is to them at every single decision point. The rest is just details along the way to hacking your brain, spying on you, siphoning your money through microtransactions, and whatever other 1984 shit they have dreamed up.
I’m curious in what universe (or metaverse HEH) did he think his geeky cracker robot ass was the best person to introduce this to the world? They couldn’t throw like a 100 milly at Samuel L?
Only 2 possibilities either zuck is the most clueless “human” on the entire planet and no one in the organisation has the stones to tell him the truth. Or it was intentionally terrible to distract from Facebook’s recent catalogue of evil deeds. I could believe either.
