It's time to delete Metabook, Twitter and TikTok (and Reddit). Fuck it, social media is cancer - a thread.

Social media was a mistake.

Twitter found a “statistically significant difference favouring the political right wing” in all the countries except Germany. Under the research, a value of 0% meant tweets reached the same number of users on the algorithm-tailored timeline as on its chronological counterpart, whereas a value of 100% meant tweets achieved double the reach. On this basis, the most powerful discrepancy between right and left was in Canada (Liberals 43%; Conservatives 167%), followed by the UK (Labour 112%; Conservatives 176%). Even excluding top government officials, the results were similar, the document said.

Love the passive use of “found”, like they didn’t program it this way, it just appeared, nothing we can do guys sorry.

I’m sure at least part of it is due to differences in how the left and right communicate.

Consider that right-wingers demonstrate more brand loyalty in politics. If this translates to similar behavior with respect to consumer goods, then that is who advertisers should prefer to reach and who they would want to see the audience to become more like, not out of any care about politics, but simply because the general behavior going beyond politics is more profitable.

I don’t think the politics is the point for Facebook or Twitter. It’s just a side effect of trying to make more money.

To be fair the right is likely much more adept at hitting the points that get these algorithms to push their works.

This happens because QAnon is the normal progression for a conservative. Facebook isn’t leading people astray; it’s bringing out their natural tendencies.

The algorithm serves people content it has calculated they’ll be interested in, correct? So of course it starts showing Qanon stuff to Trump lovers. I mean, they’re the same thing.

The social networks identify content that is getting the most engagement and amplify it to people who they think will be interested.

I’m saying it’s normal for a conservative who is agnostic in Trump.

Everyone of these platforms I’m on that makes recommendations (Youtube, Spotify, Twitter) recommends Jordan Peterson to me despite me never clicking on it once.

Youtube is just as bad. Probably Instagram too. Algorithms = evil.
