It's time to delete Metabook, Twitter and TikTok (and Reddit). Fuck it, social media is cancer - a thread.

There’s nothing happening in the community

YMMV but when I joined Nextdoor, it took all of 11 minutes from the time I got signed up and logged in until the first deplorable Trumpy post complaining about how some (presumably) non-Trump-supporting “other” was “ruining the neighborhood with their loud ethnic music.” I instantly deleted my account.

Heh yep and sometimes kings would just kill their lenders. The Knights Templar essentially ceased to exist as a military order in 1312 not because they were defeated by the Saracens in a Crusade; but because Philip IV of France owed them a metric fkton of money from his war against England and didn’t want to pay it back, so he got the Pope (then conveniently based in Avignon) to call an inquisition and arrested their leaders, burning many at the stake.

Something about this made me chuckle. I’m imagining billboards in France in 1300 saying “The Papacy - Now With More Convenient Locations To Serve You Better!”

This exchange reminds me of an excellent but obscure Canadian kids show from the 90s called History Bites. They did a bunch of skits as though 90s style TV existed at various historical periods. Its a nerdy kind of humor but actually pretty funny and pretty educational as well. I think it can all be found on YouTube now.

Hope you guys don’t own an oculus.

Bold strategy in an environment when Republicans are increasingly interested in tech antitrust litigation. Like if Facebook buys Visa and says you have to have a Facebook account to use your credit card would that fly?

They lock you in the same way to any sites you’ve registered to via facebook authentication. If you delete your account, all those accounts become inaccessible. They don’t really warn you about that either.

Such an amazing story. Facebook does almost everything wrong. They are like the Donald Trump of social media. Wholly incompetent and ridiculous but propped up by die hard supporters.

The Trump / Facebook Venn Diagram is surely interesting.

Isn’t this story from 2017?

Also. When I searched to find this story. Google felt the need to warn me that child porn was illegal…

Fuckin absurd how much “irregularities” and “issues” gets tossed around. You can talk about anything with the election and as long as you say there are some “irregularities”, morons hear that dogwhistle as MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD. fuck

I was missing facebook after the election. I have family members tell me about arguments people get in and I miss being able to view it.

But I’m still glad I decided to get rid of it.

I know we so used to Trump dumbing down America but we have to remember that Biden is smart and surrounds himself with smarter people. It basically took him a day to come up with a coronavirus task force. He’s got this. It’s why he laughs when the media asks him about Trump not turning power over.

These fucking people.

Shout out Leonardo DiCaprio
