Fuck, messing with free donuts for pigs… That’s socialism!
He was a secret service guy under Obama. He had a show on NRA TV until that went belly up.
They exist because the algorithm demands content like that. You get rid of them and they’ll be replaced immediately.
Put their replacements in prison. How many people do you have to put in prison before they start to get the point? A couple hundred tops.
My struggle is I basically only use FB to advocate for liberal causes, and my natural style is deliberately abrasive. But I’ve moved to white flight USA and ‘friended’ all the folks on my street, and lo and behold they’re all deplorables. I’m locked into a lease for 2 more years here, and I’m married to a darker skinned woman who’s from S America and speaks with an accent. Have a son who isn’t ‘white’ I guess.
So wife is uncomfortable with me getting into political scuffs with the neighbors, but neighbors are quick to respond to FB content. I think the best move is remembering to block all the neighbors with each FB post even though it’s kind of arduous, but not posting about politics on FB is kinda off the table so not sure what other choices I have? I guess I could just endure their garbage rebuttals but that’s kind of soul crushing, don’t think that’s viable long term.
Before Trump (and for a little while after his election) I used to hate listen to right wing radio during my commutes and he was a very frequent guest and fill in host for basically all of the hosts on the Sirius/XM right wing station. It’s kind of impressive how he’s built a name for himself like this.
We have one super white trash family in my neighborhood and I just assumed that they were deplorable. However, they just put a giant Biden sign on their lawn so now I feel bad for making assumptions. (I still wish they would clean up the miniature landfill on their property, and do they really need like 9 vehicles that barely run? NH though so they can do whatever they want pretty much.)
Putting people who have money in prison is no easy task. And you’re wrong about that… when there’s sufficient money involved there will always be a next person willing to take the risk. This gig is a lot better than selling drugs and a heck of a lot less risky. Somebody will do it. They might not look as good on paper as Bongino or Shapiro, but they’ll be kindred lesser spirits.
Seriously you can’t solve problems like this. Either attack the cause of the symptoms or don’t try. Mitigating symptoms is for problems that resolve themselves on their own. Facebook is definitely not one of those problems. In fact if anything FB has proven that they plan to keep expanding their tumorlike influence on the culture as fast as possible.
If you’re going to prosecute people for promoting terrorism online or whatever (I think this is a relatively easy case to make actually) you do it at the same time as you do something real about FB. That way you take out the practitioners of this particular symptom so that they don’t find a new way to feed in the aftermath, and no one replaces them because their activities aren’t economically viable anymore.
The other choices you have include getting off FB entirely because you’re not changing anyone’s mind on there hth
I feel like facebook’s actions in the second half of twenty twenty are totally transparent as hoping to get a reprieve if the Democrats take over.
Putting Biongino in prison is too hard because he’s rich, but we’re going to ban Zuck? Don’t think so.
(You seem to not be able to tell that I’m not serious about putting lots of people in prison.)
(You seem to not be able to tell that I’m not serious about putting lots of people in prison.)
The amount of effort I’d expend to solve a problem for real is exponentially greater than what I’d do to deal with a symptom of the problem on an extremely temporary basis.
Plus Zuck is super vulnerable right this second. It’s time for him to get got.
Seems to me like Fox News and AM radio are orders of magnitude more of a problem than Facebook.
Fox News is #2 on the hit list sharing a slot with Sinclaire. You’re wrong though… FB has way way way more people on it for way more time consuming even worse content than Fox News.
I think we’re lucky that we’re not banned and Jacobin and Democracy Now! and CNN and MSNBC aren’t banned and it’s absurd for us to talk about what media we want banned.
Appreciated this article. It demonstrates the foundational issues that cause Facebook content moderation to be broken. It involves ever level of employee. These same issues impact all aspects of their operations.
I don’t believe it is fixable given the composition and size of the company. Can not even really talk about it until Zuckerberg is no longer allowed.
I’d prefer to stop all free news distribution. Pay for it or you can’t read it. No ad supported media and they can’t be in cable bundles. NPR/PBS are free, all others pay to consume.
Then you subsidize local media organizations hard.
As for social media in its current form… I think that experiment is over. It’s current form has gotta go asap. I have serious suspicions that they’ll look back on this time in history in the future as being when they learned that social media needed tons of regulatory guard rails. I’ll be zero % surprised if it’s a boring public utility in 20 years.
That thing you’re typing in now? That’s social media.
